Do you guys think Bing is better than Northeastern in pre-med?

Based on price along, you are better off going to Binghamton and saving money for med school.

In terms of education, teaching, and advising binghamton and northeastern are about the same, the only difference being the location and northeastern’s co-op program. Because Northeastern is located in Boston, with it’s co-op program it would be much easier to get involved with the local hospitals making things like research and shadowing much more accessible to you. I may be wrong, but to the best of my knowledge Binghamton isn’t as centrally located around major medical facilities, and is pretty much dead compared to life in Boston. However, the low tuition/good education is what makes it appealing.
I was also struggling with this decision but in the end I’m deciding on Binghamton because you also have to remember that med school is going to cost a lot, and paying 50k+ at northeastern because of its accessibility to local facilities may not be worth it.

As a transfer student into the bioengineering program at Binghamton and medical school hopeful, I would have to say its a no brainer to choose Binghamton. Not only is it a research university, but it specifically has many medically related research grants that they are quite often looking for new people to fill. Additionally, REU’s and other sorts of research opportunities are in abundance if you have a very good application (which I assume you do if your considering med school).

Cheaper, education is close to the same if not better, research is probably better…simple choice.

Just something to think about with regards to Northeastern; I just visited this past weekend and was told that they have a special program for pre-meds which, if you are accepted into it, you are guaranteed a spot at Tufts’ med-school. This means that you don’t have to take the MCATs and completely circumvent the med-school application process (a nightmare in itself, I’ve heard).

Shwoot, Binghamton has an EA program into Upstate Med and Buffalo Med… :P

dudecollege could you expand on that a bit please. “EA”?

Sure, I’ll expand on the Early Assurance programs. Both application processes are done at the end Sophomore year… Also, an acceptance to one of these selective programs is BINDING, but they save a lot of time and money in the long run (since you would not have to travel to get to 1000000 med school interviews and continually stress about this stuff.) Here are the details for admission into the programs, individually:

Early Assurance into Upstate: 1300 SAT required. 3.5 college GPA required. Must get 30 on MCAT in one sitting (after acceptance into program.) Must maintain 3.5 GPA at Binghamton after acceptance.

Early Assurance into Buffalo: 1400 SAT required. 3.75 college GPA required. NO MCAT!!! Must maintain 3.75 GPA at Binghamton after acceptance.
