Binge watched tv shows

Oh, I almost forgot another GREAT Brit drama! Land Girls!!! It is so nostalgic, sweet, and yet suspenseful If you have the opportunity, it is ‘worth a watch’! and if you love British Tv, here’s a great link to Netflix shows…

@CALSmom , what season are you on? The Americans.

I agree that the second season of Dr. Foster is really intense, but I really hope there’s a season 3. The second season of Marcella is also super intense. Has anyone watched that yet?

I’m finishing Rectify. Another dark and broody show. I almost started Marcella yesterday but needed to finish a few shows in progress first.

@conmama season 5, ep 8
Can I just say while I like the unique plot of the series I dislike the soft porn aspect of the show. It does not need to be in it. We get it, they’re spies and they do what they have to ‘for the mission’ but geez!
Re: Dr. Foster. When I watched season 1 I had no idea there would be a season 2. I thought it ended quite nicely with the split up. But lo and behold season 2 shows up on Amazon, so given the ending of S2, there has to be a S3!

Finished Safe, and, like The Five, found it entertaining but not wonderful.

I watched Sweetbitter and loved it. It’s based on the book by Stephanie Danler which I had read last year. It’s only six episodes and is about a young woman moving to New York, and getting a job in a high end restaurant. The things she learns about the restaurant business and about life, come fast and furious. The ensemble cast is excellent and the storytelling is very good. The first season is like the appetizer of this story, I’m hoping, and I can’t wait for more.

Watching the second season of Goliath with Billy Bob Thornton. It is really good, very gruesome in some places. But really good.

I finished season 1 of Good Girls Revolt last night. I let this series from Amazon linger on my watchlist for 2 years, but I really liked it. The sad part is that Amazon chose not to continue it. It is so timely with the #metoo movement.

We are watching Godless. It’s pretty good. S is on a western kick right now.

Finished first episode of Ripper Street and I found it to be good! I like it better than Peaky Blinders so far. Matthew Mcfadyen is terrific!

I finished Rita and now have finished Offspring. I am so lonely.
Any suggestions for similar series?
No spy or detective or bloody. I am looking for lovely people to
end the day watching.
Thanks!

@oregon101 have you watched Gilmore Girls? Nurse Jackie? The Good Wife? I know they’re older but GG is the most feel good of the three. Grace & Frankie if you need a laugh is good.

Not the Good Wife but all of the rest.

Oregon, have you watched Mozart in the Jungle?

I watched The Forest over the weekend. It’s a French “Nordic” mystery, like Broadchurch and Marcella are English Nordics. It’s a lot like Broadchurch, except set in a small, tight-knit village in northern France, on the edge of the Ardennes forest.

It’s OK, and certainly entertaining, even compelling at times. But, sorry, French, despite calling this sort of story “un polar” you don’t do Nordic like the Scandanavians. Too many plot holes, too much obvious too soon, too much inconsistency, not enough interesting edges in the central characters, especially the male ones. It has some great ideas, but doesn’t explore them fully. It does have some classy echoes of Sophocles and Francois Truffaut, and I would love to see more of either of the two central female actors – Suzanne Clement (who essentially plays the same role Olivia Colman has in Broadchurch) and Alexia Barlier (who plays a high school teacher in her late 20s with an unusual past and somewhat otherworldly air).

@oregon101 I loved the Good Wife and am loving the spinoff (The Good Fight) now. That’s a great binge with tons of episodes.

My H and I are watching Longmire and enjoying it. It’s such a different take on the cop procedural, and the scenery is spectacular, even if it is New Mexico and not Wyoming!

oregon101 tell me more about Rita. Is it available on Netflix?

Have you watched Parenthood and Friday Night Lights? It sounds like we both have similar tastes. I have 3 episodes left of Offspring and holding off as long as I can. Better Things with Pamela Adlon on FX is good. I think there have been two seasons so far. Girlfriends Guide to Divorce is totally soapy and an LA far beyond my pay grade, but I’ve been watching that too.

Yes, I have seen Mozart in the jungle.
Rita is on Netflix.
Yes to Parenthood.
Did not like Girlfriends Guide to Divorce.
I am not sure about Friday Night Lights. I will take a look.
Thanks.

@oregon101 have you seen Jane the Virgin? It’s a really fun show that both DH and I enjoy when we’re not in the mood for something dark or super serious. There are four seasons on Netflix.
