I loved the ending of Unforgotten, redemption.
3rd season of Sneaky Pete is out on Amazon Prime.
T Whomever Recommended āUnforgottenā,
THANKYOU!!! I just finished Season 1 - I loved it!
Then youāll love Season 2 even more
Another fan of Unforgotten here! One of the best British crime shows Iāve ever seen. I am a huge fan of Nicola Walker, who was also in River, among other things. I just finished watching season 3 of Unforgotten, equally as good as the first two seasons.
Now I need to find River!!
Thanks to the person who recommended Shetland. I couldnāt get the DVDs for 1-2 yet but could watch 3-5. It inspired me to get the first novel and thereās no Tosh! I like the relationship between Tosh and Jimmy. What happened in the second half of season 3 was well-done, different from the usual - they actually asked specialists what their ideal depiction would be, what should not be shown or said, etc. and they followed through. Also the trauma doesnāt magically disappear at the end series 3 and impacts events in series 4.
My vote is Shetland 5 is its best. But this deal where you have to wait between episodes is nuts.
I just signed up for Hulu. What do you recommend on Hulu that we wouldnāt have seen on Netflix or Amazon Prime? (other than Handmaidās Tale.)
@psychmomma momma,
If you like police detective shows, I think you will like the British TV show called Line of Duty on Hulu. In one of the episodes, the lead actress was Keeley Hawes who played the MP, Julia Montague, in Bodyguard.
We really enjoy Line of Duty.
Thanks! I started Unforgotten tonight due to the buzz about it here - only 3 episodes in and itās so good! Iāll put Line of Duty on my list next.
How are you watching The White Queen? Iāve wanted to watch that for awhile but donāt know where to find it. I have Netflix and Amazon Fire Stick.
I highly recommend Cardinal on Hulu. Itās a Canadian crime series focusing on police detective John Cardinal (played by Billy Campbell) and his partner Lise DeLorme (played by French-Canadian actress Karine Vanasse). There are three seasons available, six episodes each.
I think Iām going to wait until the whole fifth season of Shetland is available before watching it. Then I can get the free 7-day trial of BritBox and binge it.
Just make sure no episodes of Shetland 5 expire before you start. I donā think itās a big risk, but itās ben an issu for me with some BBC/Masterpiece Theater things, in the past.
Not sure what Iāll do when I hit Unforgoten 3, which is not Prime free. Not yet, at least.
I streamed Unforgotten season 3 on the PBS website as it came out every week. If you havenāt done a free trial of PBS Masterpiece yet on Amazon, you could do that and then binge watch the season.
And thanks for the reminder about the episodes of Shetland. It looks like all episodes of season 4 are available, so Iām assuming it will also be true for season 5. Iām pretty sure I watched seasons 1-3 on Amazon Prime for free, but it looks like theyāre not free anymore.
Shetland does not appear to be free on Amazon Prime. Any other recommendations for shows in a similar ilk?
@coralbrook I finished The White Queen this past week. I watched it on Starz on demand otherwise I would have ordered it from our library. I have Netflix but didnāt check since we have Starz.
Two summers ago, I watched Offspring (Australian). Last summer, I loved Rita (Danish and recommended by someone on this forum). So what should I watch this summer on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon? I most like what I guess are called family dramas, but quirky ones with great characters and writing. It doesnāt have to be international, but those worked out so well that Iām thinking there might be something else out there that Iām missing.
Also loved Offspring and Rita, and followed with Shtisel and Srugim based on recommendations here. Both are on Netflix ( I think )
Atypical, on Netflix, is more dramedy than straight drama, but it involves a deep and nuanced portrait of a family, and āquirkyā might well be its middle name. And itās very, very good ā beautifully written and acted by everyone involved. There are 18 total episodes of about a half-hour each, so easily bingeable in a week.
The central characters are a high-functioning autistic high school boy, his parents, and his high-functioning in every respect younger sister. Other recurring characters include a young therapist treating him, a potential girlfriend, potential boyfriends for his sister (and also, notably, his mother), co-workers at the Best Buy where he works, group therapy mates, and his sisterās and parentsā various friends and frenemies. Jennifer Jason Leigh ā almost unrecognizable in middle age ā does a great job of inhabiting a very complex stay-at-home mother.
