My son got deferred to regular decision pool last night.
Harpur
30 ACT
94 GPA
Lots of EC including sports and community service.
He has 2 friends that got in to Harpur last night with 28 and 30 ACT. He’s so upset.
What are the chances that he will get in RD?
My daughter is in a similar situation. Deferred to RD with a 1320 SAT and a 95 GPA. Lots of EC’s. Classmates with lower stats were accepted. I’m as curious as you are.
@CollegeMotherNow I’m so sorry that your son got deferred. In my opinion, he has pretty strong stats. If Binghamton is his top choice, my suggestion is that he reaches out to his Admissions Rep to let them know about his continued interest (especially if it is his top choice). It can only help if they are re-evaluating students like your son who meet their standards. Wishing you all the best.
Thank you. Will do that. It’s going to be hard waiting until April 1st to get another decision!
My son got deferred to SOM with a 30
ACT…1300 SAT…96 average… AP classes and some volunteering. I’m also seeing kids with lower stats getting admitted. It’s very confusing
@borgdoctor
Interesting approach about getting a second look at Bing before their Scheduled Accepted Students Days.
@H0llyw00d
Very much appreciated of your insights, advices and suggestions. I personally feel intimidated by the admissions process, and this forum is tremendously helpful.
Accepted into Watson Computer Science!!!
I didn’t get any email and apparently the decision came out on 1/10
Stats: GPA 91 ACT 30, pretty good ECs
Anyone else applying EOP?
.
can i ask what were your daughters stats?
I guess Bing will start rolling out the regular decisions on the 16th?
They still haven’t sent out all EA decisions surprisingly. I thought they would all come out last week but I guess they are going right up to the wire and sending out the rest tonight. Deadline is tomorrow 1/15. I thought RD was later like March
@Monroemom16 - Sorry to hear your son was deferred for SOM. If he really wants to go to Bing, maybe check out the forum on this site called “Ask a current bing student questions” and ask advice from current students who had been deferred and were ultimately accepted - maybe they have advice about how to get in, what to send in to supplement your application etc
I don’t want to discourage anybody from contacting the Admissions, but I would not get my hopes too high. Consider this. My son applied to EA to Binghamton and ED to Cornell. After he was admitted to Cornell, he immediately sent a withdrawal email to Admissions, as he was contractually obligated to do. He never received any confirmation whatsoever. And, two months after withdrawing his application, he was notified that was deferred (!!). This makes me think that there are some serious communications problems between whoever handles the correspondence with students and whoever makes these admissions decisions…
@AnxiousDad2024 Hey, congrats on your son getting into Cornell. I also was accepted to Cornell ED and will be attending. Did you try emailing your specific admissions counselor, rather than the general admissions office?
@dad1023 Is this true that RD come out on Jan 16th? I thought it was March /April.
Have him write his regional admissions officer asap and express how serious he is about attending Binghamton.
@manward Jan 15 is the last day for EA… I just assumed (basically checked last year’s thread) that from Jan 16th onwards, it will be just RD decisions going forward until April 1st (last day).
I applied EA but I still haven’t gotten a decision…? I don’t know what I should do…
Just received an email “Save the Date for the Admitted Student Open House for April 18 or April 26. Registration coming soon.” Do you think one of those days will be just for Watson or Computer Science specific?
