Binghamton Class of 2024 Thread

My son also waiting to hear back from Harpur. Deferred in January. 30 ACT

Well one of my sons heard and he did not get in. He applied to the SOM with a 3.8 GPAā€¦31 ACT and 1300 SAT plus 4 AP classes. This upsets me as Iā€™ve seen kids get in with not as good stats just because they were in more clubs. My other son still hasnā€™t heard and his grades are even better than his brothers and heā€™s already been accepted to Stonybrook which is even harder to get into. I can tell heā€™s upset but at least we arenā€™t waiting anymore. Itā€™s just kind of crappy for them to wait so long to reject you. My daughter is graduating from the accelerated nursing program this May and it would have been nice for her brother to follow her.

Can any Bing students comment? @cls2022 I am admitted to Harpur (Economics) and was wondering how many hours you spend on work outside of the classroom doing homework, essays, reading, projects etc. I know it varies throughout different majors and times during the semester(ie:finals) but Iā€™m looking for an average for the gen ed classes and economics. Iā€™m a good, diligent student, but it does take me longer to do my work than most. When people post their (or their kidā€™s) SATs, and stats, they seem to be higher than mine. I am wondering if there is anyone that can comment that has average or low average stats. I want to make sure I choose a school where I can keep up comfortably and have time for extracurriculars. I may want to transfer to the business school, so I will have to keep up at least a 3.5 average. How is the rigor of the business school?
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

@Monroemom16 Hi, Iā€™m sorry about the rejection but donā€™t lost hope for your second son :). Usually SOM is harder to get into. Iā€™m also waiting to hear back but I applied for Harpur. What did your other son apply to?

Not sure. They weight out of 100. Might have been 101 after his Junior Year. It would be way lower now. Just getting him of a couch is an accomplishment now.

The letter was odd. I thought it was a rejection letter.

@DadOf2Kids what was odd about the letter?

Has anyone been deferred and then
rejected?

The first sentence was:

We had so many talented students like you apply this year that we simply do not have room for everyone in the fall. The admissions committee was impressed by your hard work, dedication and achievements, and we are still very interested in having you attend Binghamton University in the fall.

That first lineā€¦

Anyone else still waiting?

My son applied EA to Watson and was deferred and is still waiting.

@DadOf2Kids Thatā€™s so odd. The first sentence does sound like a rejection, but good thing it wasnā€™t. Congrats! I hope to hear back tomorrow. Getting anxious because itā€™s almost April 1 and it seems like itā€™s just rejections and waitlists from no on.

@sunybalum Iā€™m waiting to hear back too. I got waitlisted in January and itā€™s almost April 1. Hoping that this week isnā€™t just rejections and waitlisting.

@Bigsexy Iā€™m still waiting. I got deferred to Harpur in January and April 1 is right around the corner. Getting anxious and hoping I get admitted to Fall 2020. What school did you apply to and what were your stats?

Has anyone whos been deferred heard back, from what I gathered and see this year deferred students hear last? Which is kind of messed up in my way of looking at it. Maybe today will be our day only four more possible days to make a decision. Best of luck to everyone and I hope youā€™re staying safe and healthy

@laurenfelle Hi! Iā€™m still waiting. I got deferred to Harpur in January and April 1 is right around the corner. Getting anxious and hoping I get admitted to Fall 2020. What school did you apply to and what were your stats? Also, some of my friends who have been deferred heard back but got waitlisted.

anyoneā€™s bottom of the portal disappear?

Iā€™m still waiting as well. Applied regular decision way back in November to Harpur for Poli Sci

@thatcollegebitch Hi thanks so much for getting back to me, I applied for Harpur Bio (if I get in then I will declare pre-med) Gpa as of now with senior classes is a 93.4 and sat was 1380 (740 in math 640 English) Iā€™ve taken six apps,s and my school only offers eight total. I go to a CTE school in manhattan for fine arts, so on top of normal classes im taking three periods a day of art courses and have since freshman year, i donā€™t know if that aids or lessons my shot. If you donā€™t mind me asking your stats too, best of luck to you let me know if you hear anything

@laurenfelle I also applied for Harpur Bio and I have a 1320 SAT and a 96 GPA. Did the bottom of your portal change today and were you deferred from reg decision?

@gerimariex Hi! I also applied for Harpur but I did bio. Were you deferred to regular decision? And did your portal change at all today?
