I am having a very tough time making a decision. I was accepted to the Mechanical Engineering programs at SUNY Binghamton and Northeastern University. I was wondering which school has a better engineering program, and which I should attend. As a New York State resident, Binghamton is much cheaper for me, but I believe that with scholarships, financial aid, and money earned from the co-op program, the cost of Northeastern could be close to that of Binghamton. I love the idea of co-op, and I think it is an important element of becoming an engineer. If I go to Binghamton, I would probably do some summer internships. Anyway, please help me with this difficult decision. Thanks for your comments.

Have you visited both? Northeastern is right in Boston, extremely urban, great location. Binghamton is in the middle of nowhere. Which environment do you prefer? I've heard that Northeastern offers good aid the first year, then cuts it. Not sure if it's true or not. Yes, Coop is a plus, but I've worked around Coops a lot. If you are far from home, car and rent expenses eat into your pay. Yet, it's a definite leg up on finding a job and even in your starting salary. Northeastern seems to have high morale and student satisfaction. Binghamton- mixed. A number of my relatives have gone to Northeastern full time or part time, and had a very high opinion of it.

I suggest Northeastern, by the way,, when did you receive your acceptance letter from Northeastern?

I recieved my acceptance letter yesterday. I have visited both, and liked both, but I'm having trouble making up my mind. Thank you for your comments onemom and jelda. Anyone else?

Northeastern's coop program for engineering is a good deal. I would lean towards Northeastern if you like both equally and money isn't an issue. Maybe you need to do another visit to see if anything really pops out for you. Don't rush - you have time.

Unfortunately, money is a big issue. However, with a decent merit scholarship and money earned from co-op, the price of Northeastern may not be too much more than the price of Binghamton. If money wasn't an issue, I would probably go to Northeastern, but I'm not sure. I like both schools, so this is going to be hard. Thanks for your comments.

I would do with SUNY Binghampton...all around better school than Northeastern, likely cheaper, and you'll graduate faster.

Anyone else?

bump...............

bump.....................

The only other advice I have is to trust your gut instinct. Let this rest for a few weeks, try to do another visit to both schools if possible, and just see which one feels more like home. Either is a good choice for various reasons --- listen to yourself and you'll know which is right for you. Good luck!

Thank you carolyn. I think I will try to visit both schools again. I still have to wait for my financial aid package from Northeastern to be able to make a choice. Thanks again.
