Hey guys, I was just wondering about Bing’s rep. I know this year has been an incredibly selective year with the 29k applicants, and the NCAA tournament, so I figure Binghamton is becoming even more well-known then before.

What do you guys think the reputation is like at the moment?

I’ve got a guaranteed admittance for next year, do you think there will be as many app’s?

Also, I will be going to The College of New Jersey for freshman year, what do you think of TCNJ vs. Bing’s reputation?

Binghamton has a GREAT reputation, everyone I tell says, “It’s the public Ivy!” Which is definitely true. I really am not familiar with TCNJ, but Binghamton’s rep is very well known.

i’d be more likely to compare tcnj and geneseo than tcnj and binghamton. ie. both tcnj and geneseo are colleges, not universities, both about the same size, both the most selective college in their state.

i think tcnj is a great school – but from what i can tell a lot of people outside of nj just don’t know a lot about – it used to be trenton state which may affect the name recognition – which may affect its reputation compared to its quality. it may be ny-centric of me, but i think more people know about binghamton which in turn may affect its relative reputation.

but they are both very good schools – don’t let reputation alone guide your decision. they are very different. see how you like tcnj and then go and visit binghamton again to see if you think you’d like it better or not. you’ll have a better basis for comparison then – consider class size, available campus activities, dorm styles, the departments you are interested in – my guess is you’d find that switching over to binghamton will represent a big difference in some of these – and only you will be able to tell if those are right for you.

Thanks for the response iamhere, that was extremely helpful!!!
