looked back at the deferred thread from last year. i shouldnt have looked LOL anyway most waited until april 1st to hear (i think 2 heard before that - they were accepted). many were wait listed with spring offer, some denied and a couple offered some program (no idea what it is, i didnt want to read anymore).
many of the deferred had similar stats to the ones we have posted here.
just curious… how many in states are here. we are (staten island,ny).

Long Island, NY here.
I REALLY hope I don’t get the Spring Admission. I want my college experience to be a one shot thing. I don’t like the idea of having to transfer in. That’s just me.

@CBMOM, how are the acceptances looking with your D’s stats in comparison to last year. You listed wait-listed (please Lord, don’t give me this one), and denied. Were the acceptances great?

SAT: 1870

Was somewhat surprised at this, but I really hope I get in for RD, Bing is one of my top choices.

Already accepted to Rutgers SAS and University at Buffalo Honors College.

Jbryant… stats were better than my daughters but cant remember specifics. I will look again tomorrow. Not many acceptances of deferrals and the talk there was about how many out of states were accepted with lower stats.
At this point Im crossing my fingers for Rutgers to come thru with a scholarship. Not giving up completely but trying to be realistic.

I’m from Long Island!

From Long Island too.

@marktv
Wow you heard from Buff already. I have no idea why I didn’t apply Honors College; actually I didn’t even know they had Honors College.

checker still down!!!

I’m currently a freshman at Binghamton and I was deferred last year in the EA pool.

However, I was later accepted RD. So don’t give up hope!

Remain optimistic about the situation, as things always tend to work out for the best. If you wish to message me with any questions, feel free!

@Di3
Do you remember your stats? It seems to me that my SAT score is really weighing in, and unfortunately seems a bit too late.

Also what did you do, when you got deferred - anything special? I actually would love to go here, as it still remains to be my top choice.

@jbryant yes most likely the SAT score for my daughter as well and also maybe being in state. Binghamton still her top choice but at this point shes starting to accept thats its probably not going to happen.
She did email admissions and the response was nothing else she can do and that her application will be re-reviewed and she will have a decission by April 1st.
@di3 i will say its great to hear you were admitted after being deferred. When did you get your acceptance? Was is April 1st? And what were you SAT scores? Thanks.

i had a >3.0 gpa i think sat scores hold a lot of weight so if your deferred maybe retake it?

@jbryant -If you dont mind my 2 cents…

My son might have been the last one to be accepted (they might have asked him to close the door on the way in… )

He was VERY high in everything EXCEPT the SAT. He had a 4.0 GPA, tons of AC classed, all honors classes, loads of EC’s and about 4 letters of recommendations. He also had one of the best essay that his english teacher had read so it appears that was good.

his SAT was around 1100 (reading and math). He is not a great BIG test taker… he stresses too much

he tried for EA, was deferred to RD, was put on the waitlist and they gave him a spring offer… and then finally about a day before all deposits were due (april 30th) He got an acceptance letter.

so your SAT is just one part of the puzzle and Binghamton looks at you holistically.

Dont give up hope… Good luck

@hftm

It’s almost scary how closely related (in terms of stats) your son and me are. My grades are 3.9 (not quite 4.0 in contrast to your son), by essay was the best thing I’ve ever written; loads of APs, and ECs.

Then again, I am far from the best test taker in the world.

That’s great to hear though, did he do anything special when he was wait-listed, or you just have to wait?

Also, given the fact that I’ll be accepted into another school; how does the timing work; if it’s the day before how did this affect your deposits. Did you place one at another school already?

@jbryant624

I think I posted his story on another thread but I have no problem reliving it… Once waitlisted he put a deposit to New Paltz to the Fall and he put a deposit for the Spring at Binghamton. About 4 days before the deadline of deposits, we took a 200 mile (each way) road trip to Binghamton to talk to one of the admissions councelors. He spend about 15 or 20 minutes talking to a councelor (he had a script planned out and he tried very hard to know all the things that might be discussed) He told the councelor that this was his first choice and he was ready to commit right there…

3 days later (1 day before deposits were due) he got accepted for the fall.

i had one day to get back the deposit from New Paltz (which we did)…

They say its rare to get taken off the waitlist before the deposit deadline date but it happened. I am not sure if it had anything to do with the visit but I dont take anything for granted

Truly a story worth telling - phenomenal. I hope he’s enjoying his time there. Hopefully I have the same luck as he does, because I really want to graduate in the year 2018 as a Bearcat. Just hoping for the best at this point, hopefully I’m not placed on the waiting list, but if it happens; what can we do about it right? Congratulations again, definitely a story to remember.

What do you guys think my chances are?
GPA-3.67
ACT-28
Recommendations-Great (2 teachers, one guidance counselor and after being differed I recently just sent in a recommendation from the parents of the autistic kid I shadow for)
Extra Curricalars- Many leader positions, Very Good

Well, I have been in this boat before. My other child got deferred as well…early action last year. Then she got wait listed. Then nothing!! It was annoying because she had better sat scores than some kids, had all ap classes, high honors, a disability she worked with, sports, activities, killer essay…ect… she even had a recommendation from a suny board member. Nothing helped. We sent in her grades, other letters, visited the school… nothing. Every school she applied to she even got a scholarship… Fordham, Loyola Maryland, Marist, Quinnipiac, Villanovia, etc…She was so disappointed… This year my son is now playing the waiting game… He too is getting scholarships to all the schools he applied to… … so i don’t hold out much hope. I wish they would just accept or reject kids,

My dd was deferred from Binghamton last week via email. Today her status says Accepted!!!
We are thrilled, although a bit baffled…has this happened to anyone else? We had expected to play the long waiting game …

interesting… can u share her stats?
