Binghamton v. Geneseo

Got into both. Visited both. Liked both. Thinking of majoring in math and physics. If you are familiar with both schools, your thoughts are appreciated.

For math and sciences I’d go with Binghamton… Geneseo is more liberal arts and Binghamton is a stronger school altogether.

I agree with allnycolleges. and i don’t know what you want to pursue as a career, but Binghamton has better connections than Geneseo

I read Geneseo is doing away with computer science program and my recollection is they don’t have engineering, so if you chose to branch out into to those areas you’ll be limited.

Surprisingly, Geneseo’s median SAT scores are a bit higher than Binghamton’s.

^It might have to do with the fact that Binghamton is a much larger school with more diverse acceptances, which can lower the median SAT score.

Anyway, I agree with the above comments.

Even though Geneseo is a liberal arts school it now emphasizes the sciences and research with biology being the most popular major for 1st year students.

As for Physics, Geneseo consistently ranks high on American Institute of Physics reports graduating more undergraduate students than any of the other SUNY schools (college or university).

Also take a look at the Case study regarding Geneseo’s Physics Department on page 130 this tells you a little bit more about the program.

It is true Geneseo does not have an Engineering program. You would have to apply to one of their 3/2 programs. Currently Geneseo has programs with the following schools: Alfred University, Case Western Reserve, Clarkson, Columbia, Penn State, Rochester Institute of Technology, SUNY/Binghamton, SUNY/University of Buffalo, Syracuse University, University of Rochester

At the end of the day Geneseo and Binghamton are both great schools.
