Binghamton vs. Boston university (stuck)

I am deciding between these two universities, Bing's and Boston U's CAS
I'm planning on going into dentistry ,but for now my major is undeclared

The benefit of going to binghamton is that it is closer to home (3 hours drive) and also my brother goes there. It will be more convenient for my family and for me. Also, freshmen are not suppose to have a car at bing but I will have access to my brother's car because he will be a junior. I love the environment in Bing and the campus, and financially it will be easier for me in terms of loans in the future. Bing has a campus and it's not a bad school!

The benefits of going to Boston U is that I received a lot of aid and scholarships, almost covering the price tag of the school with just couple thousand dollars short. However, in comparison, Bing is still about 5000 cheaper a year. Another benefit of Boston U is that it has a dentistry program and it is also in Boston. Living in a big city when your 18 is something many people can't experience. However Boston is more inconvenient for my family and financially heavier on my family as compare to Binghamton SUNY

So now I'm stuck on which school I should go to...any advice?

Have you visited and toured Boston U and the city?

Yes I visited both schools already, and I’m going to the open house for admitted students to Boston U during the upcoming spring break.

Any more advices?

I would choose Binghamton without question. They have admitted students days as well during break week.

Things you should consider:

(1) The price tag of Boston U will go up year after year and any merit aid you are getting will be static to the price increase and some might be hooked to your performance. A 5% increase to $50,000 is greater than a 5% increase to $20,000. I don’t care if BU gave you this aid and that aid. Net price to you is all that matters. You say Bing is 5k per year cheaper. Works for me.

(2) Need based aid is not guaranteed and will fluctuate according to your family’s finances from year to year.

(3) If you plan on gong to dentistry school, then the last thing you want to do is to come out with (too much) debt from your undergraduate experience.

(4) You say: “Living in a big city when your 18 is something many people can’t experience.” Go study abroad in a big city if that means so much. Save some money up and go visit the big city. Spend your summer in the big city. Do you you want to live in a big city post graduate with big debt?

(5) You say: “Another benefit of Boston U is that it has a dentistry program and it is also in Boston.” I say: “so what.”

(6) You say: “The benefit of going to binghamton is that it is closer to home (3 hours drive) and also my brother goes there. It will be more convenient for my family and for me. Also, freshmen are not suppose to have a car at bing but I will have access to my brother’s car because he will be a junior. I love the environment in Bing and the campus, and financially it will be easier for me in terms of loans in the future. Bing has a campus and it’s not a bad school! Boston is more inconvenient for my family and financially heavier on my family as compared to Binghamton SUNY.”

Seems like Bing is the choice. Does your brother like it?

Thank you, and I have decided to go with Binghamton instead of BU.

I think you made a good decision and I hope it works out for you.
