If you're more interested in sciences, then stony brook is where you should go.

Stony brook is more prestigious in terms of their medical programs, but Binghamton is more prestigious overall, and the social life is apparently 10,000X better. Stony brook is known to be social suicide.

My cousin went to Bing and she's doing great. She's doing her residency (in neurology) at her #1 choice. She switched to a bio major from chem though because apparently Bing's chem dept is horrible. Stonybrook's chem dept seems better (tough!), but I have a friend in it who says that the chem profs hate pre-med students haha.

You can work in SB's hospital, so that is something to think about.

SB's campus is bad... The architecture is all screwy... I don't know if this is true, but my friend said that the reason it is so windy there (horribly so!) is because SB bought the design of the school. The design was originally for a school in the south though, so it was made to keep the students cool as they walked between buildings. Unfortunately, long island can get COLD in the winter, so it really stinks when it isn't hot out.

I have heard that Bing's campus is also kind of gloomy though, so perhaps you should visit both before making a decision.

Also, SB is right by the LIRR. It is around 1.5 hours to NYC. You won't go that often though, so just keep that in mind. Also, you neeeeddd a car on long island (unless you want to stay on campus all the time). Public transportation is not great. I don't know about Bing's area in regards to all of that.

School spirit? I'm willing to bet that it isn't great at either. Maybe a little better at Bing? I'm not sure. All I know is that stonybrooksucks.com is pretty popular heh.

I think that most New Yorkers view Bing as the better choice. For science, you'll probably be fine at either place though. Except for engineering, because I heard that they are getting rid of that at SB.

Stony Brook is probably a little stronger in the biological field and has a medical school, so that would be the plus for SB. Bing on the other hand has an overall better reputation and there seems to be a decent amount of students who go their then go on to medical school. So with that said I would say either school would not be a bad choice. With regards to social life I would give that edge to Bing. I know there have been negative comments with regard to this on both schools but contrary to some of the comments you may hear I have found that most Bing students actual like the school and the social life, I’m not that sure if that is the case for SB. Need to visit both and find out for yourself
