Binghamton...

Least they could do is spell the name right in the forum title.

oh lol i know... i first saw this thread last night at like 2 in the morning... at first i thought it was me and all this time I was spelling it wrong... then I looked at bing's site and realized that it was cc and not me (lol for once)

Anyway just checking in I guess.... ::looks around:: be back when there is an actual convo/ discussion going on then... later..

At least they made one

very true ::claps:: yea to a bing form!!!! :)

hey out of curiosity to any current binghamton students.. would you guys suggest I make a phone call to the admissions office to let them know of my interest? or should a letter be enough?

How hard is it get intO?????
is binghamton one of the hardest schoool in SUNY?
any minimum gpa and minimum sat scores?

Quite hard.... 1250 sat average and 3.6 gpa average.. far and away the hardest to get into... I go here as do a few of us on this board.. i'll try and help if i can with some questions... to be safe you'd better have a 1200 and b plus... maybe an 1150 if you have everything else going for you ten fold. Good luck!

How do you like Binghamton? How about the weather? Its one of the schools my daughter applied to. They just updated the website, and are sending us a postcard asking for her mid year grades. We visited Syracuse and Ithaca, but Binghamton was closed on vacation when we went last year.

Well first off I may not be as seasoned a student here at binghamton as you would have liked... but after my first semester (I am a junior transfer) I can give you my take. As you're probably well aware of a main drawing of this school is its low price tag. It comes out to about 14-15000 maximum. At syracuse and ithaca that is not even enough to cover one semester, at these comparably less academically inclined schools (save newhouse and syr. visual arts of course.. top notch.) The money was a huge draw point to me... I did not come her out of rejection to all my other school's as some people think a lot of the population here does. Simpy I applied and got into such schools as cornell, syracuse, and boston u. I just took whichever package came out the cheapest. This brings me to another argument for it that I see. If you have any aspirations of med school, law school, or business school.... realize this may be a very good bet... no one cares where you go ug if you are doing one of these... and in academic circles bing is known as a big feeder school.. esp. to med and law. I am a psychobiology major going along the pre med track and let me tell you the competition is fierce...not to the point of being detrimental but you will be significantly challenged no matter who you are. For those law inclined there is an interdiciplinary (sic) major, politics, philosophy, and law... besides the usual suspects (poli, eng, phil, etc.) Everything is being renovated here like new dorms, the new arena, a new gym in the works soon... so things are shaping up. Now the bad for not telling both sides is wrong. The town is pretty bad it is certainly not a college town like syracuse or ithaca. You have to make your own fun, which isn't all that impossible but still.... Initially the school will come across as impersonal and sterile but then again so did syracuse to me... we are about the same size in students. However if you make an effort to meet professors they'll usually meet you halfway.. sometimes more.... I had a conflict with a grade I recieved in a 200 person class, I had missed the b plus cutoff by .5 of a point..yep that much. So i met with him and just like that we discussed and he changed it. They're not too concerned with their research or something if you just initiate a meeting. So in sum... i very highly recommend bing is you're pre professional you can get in and get out and save for the real schooling that actually matters (med, law, grad, bus.). However if this is the end of the road for you I'd look twice at it because while the academics are superb the quality of life isn't quite as high. Good luck!

"how about the weather" you ask?
Well, I don't go to Binghamton, but I've lived in the town for 17 years so I feel the need to share. Let me just say this... Today, we recieved ~5 inches of snow. Tomorrow, it's supposed to be 50 degrees. The next day, it's supposed to be in the high teens. The one thing you can count on with Binghamton weather is that it will be completely unpredictable. If you aren't familiar with the "Winter Coat with Shorts and Sandals" phenomena, you will be. However, I must admit, I've grown quite fond of it.

Im an international student, and I applied through common app
and i wana check application status..
but it's asking for SSN (social security number)!
and I don't have that! :(

How is Binghamton w/financial aid? So far, it's my top choice out of the 3 acceptances I've gotten (SUNY Albany, University of Hartford were the others) and I will probably attend given that I get enough to go there. How would someone with low 1300s SAT/3.7 GPA fit in w/merit scholarships and how are they w/need-based aid?

Don't expect anything in terms of merit, xander. SUNY doesn't give many merit scholarships out because of the already reduced tuition. They're pretty decent with need-based aid though I think.

yay~ i got in!

Ugh... I'd wish i'd hear from them already

My daughter got a green post card a few weeks ago, requesting mid term grades. So we will see...

I didn't get any post card or mails from them,,
but I found it out by checking the applicant status on their website..
will they still want my mid term grades?!

they sent me a green postcard saying my materials have been received and are ready for review. a few days later they sent me the official acceptance. :)

i don't know if they still want midyear grades but i'm assuming they don't... ?

A friend of mine had everything sent out around November and already heard that she had been accepted without the mid-year grades. I guess it depends how strong of a student you are, so maybe it doesn't matter with some students and they're in no matter what.

We checked the website last night and it said Congratulations. We haven't gotten an acceptance package yet. So far my daughter was accepted to Binghamton, Penn State, Pitt and Ithaca.
