Hi. next semester for spring, i will be taking Principles of Biology 111. Can i buy the Campbell Biology text book? If so, which edition should i buy? i think the second latest edition is cheaper than the latest edition. personally, i think that the Campbell biology text book teaches every subject in biology. if you don;t suggest campbell's biology text book, which one do you advise?

Check the course syllabus.

You’d be fine with the older edition.

Just keep in mind that things may be slightly differently organized (chapters, subsections, and such) and end-of-chapter questions may be different, but all the material will be the same.

And yeah, I’m pretty sure all intro bio classes use Campbell’s.

My class used this book, so I bought the international edition instead of the American edition. It is exactly the same book, but it is not a hardcover. It also came with Mastering Biology. Overall, I saved close to $200 on those two things. Now, on the back of my book it does say “If you purchased this book within the United States or Canada you should be aware that it has been wrongfully imported without the approval of the Publisher or the Author.” I’m just saying this is an option.

If your course requires Campbell, get Campbell. I’ve just used the 7th edition yesterday from a school library but I have a copy of the eighth edition. It looks nearly the same!!!

You can get an older edition, international edition (usually cheaper), borrow from a friend (what i did before I went and actually required a copy from someone who didn’t want it anymore), find cheaper prices online (Half.com, amazon.com cheap-textbooks.com, etc…)

Another book one of my friends likes more is Life:The Science of Biology by Sadava.
