Obviously one course is more about ecology and the other is about biological mechanisms, but which course is easier, more interesting, etc? keep in mind i would be taking either bio course with S117 and S211.
thanks

basically what are you recommendations?
Bump
For the pre-med crowd it’s 112. Two honors courses and 112, I think you’re pushing your luck a bit. 211 and 117 are 5 and 6 credits respectively, and 112 is another 6 (pesky labs for 117 and 112). That’s 17 credits right there…
DD2 is breaking it up into 117 / 211 this fall and 112 + chem 240 in the spring. The Hutton advisor has smiled favorably upon her schedule. After 1st year she’s looking on doubling up with more ‘heavy duty’ Bio and the ever-popular Orgo 1 and 2.
honestly sounds good @turbo93 . is your dd2 doing s117 or nah? im signed up as biochem B.S. right now but i might switch to bio. and BIo 111 dosnt seem too intense. i would do bio 112 second semester with either orgo or 240 and calc II
i thought s211 was 4 credits and c117 + c127 are 5 credits??
DD2 qualified for S211 but decided to stick to regular 211, 117 is 5 credits and 211 is 4, I stand corrected, but the thing is, once you see those printed on the schedule it’s a lot. Chem lab is a 3 hour evening ordeal, 211 has some very lengthy recitations… She’s also taking some Junior level honors French literature course (she tested out of 2 years of French language), some communication course (PCON 105?) and some course required by her Collins LLC.
Her 2nd semester looks like Bio 112 + Lab, Stat 303, Chem 240, more French (she’s minoring in French), and some social studies or psych type elective.
@turbo93 right on. i placed into 300 level french. i really wanna take s211 but could u please give me the pros and cons of both m211 and s211? i think m211 goes pogrom style grading, as you said earlier, while s211 has higher grades on average.
In general Honors Math is work. The grade distribution is not the ultimate tool because of self-selectivity.
The easiest way I would think to make my mind up in S vs non-S math would be to see the syllabus. If the Honors Math class has a project worth 20%, or homework is worth more than the usual pitiful 5% or 10%, it may be worthwhile. If there’s less recitation / office-hours-in-a-classroom type of regular 211, it could save time too.
In general, college calculus tends to be winner-takes-all midterms and finals, and homeworks… don’t count so much. This explains the frightening grade distributions. So, I would try to take a peek in some 211 syllabi (maybe thru Canvas or Blackboard or what have you? or ask the math department. See old tests?
These are old tests of regular 211. If you can do those while walking and chewing gum at the same time, then S211 may be good. If you need the nearest defibrillator immediately after those tests then stick to regular 211.
I mentioned this thread to DD2 and she said that the advisor is not likely to be happy with a Chem, a Math, and a Bio class first semester.
@turbo93 but lol isnt that protocol for most pre meds???
Probably. I can now understand the pre-med memes in the Chemistry building a bit better
@turbo93 lol dude. youre pretty cool unlike a lot of people on reddit/cc haha
Experience helps. Myself, my wife, and my older girl have a combined 14+14+5 years in college
