Bio 112 textbook - Campbell Biology

Hello!

I was just wondering if anybody else currently is/previously was enrolled in this course and what they did about the textbook. I'm trying to cut down on my textbook costs as much as possible. My problem arises from the fact that the book seems to be about $150 used, not much cheaper than if bought brand new at around $170.

However, upon searching the ISBN, which is 9780321558237, an "international edition" pops up under the same ISBN. What caught my eye was that the international edition was offered brand new for $56. The difference between the two is apparently a paperback binding with the international edition, as many sellers have stated that it contains the same material as the regular edition. Has anybody purchased the international edition? Can you confirm that it is identical in content? Did your professor have any problem with the international edition?

I wanted to keep the textbook as a reference for my later courses, since I am currently planning on taking quite a few for my premed preparation. Would I be better off buying the regular version, reselling and then purchasing another book later? Or would purchasing and keeping the international edition be my best bet?

I apologize for all the questions in this post, I'm just trying my very best to reduce the amount of money my parents have to pay! I figured books were an easy way to cut some money out, however I do not want to put myself at a disadvantage while doing so. If you can answer any of the above questions, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! :)

My dad said he bought my Bio 112 book on ebay. Its hardcover and in awesome condition. I’ve also heard abt a site called half (dot) com. However if I were u id really try to stay away from the international one, unless of course u can get some confirmation its the same book.

My problem with even buying a used one from a site like ebay or Amazon, was that they were not much cheaper than the brand new ones. I checked half, their prices were not great either, though I can understand as the book is very new. I’ve heard from many people that the international is the same book, just paperback. A few people even suggested buying the 8th edition as not much has changed. Those two sound like great options, but there’s just that tick inside me that makes me want to abide by exactly what they say I need, haha.

Give bookbyte.com and alibris.com a try – they are both used book portals and will offer you an additional set of (used and new) choices.

Yea I don’t blame u haha. I just don’t wanna mess up with anything that would set me behind the eight ball. So I’m just being cautious and following the exact book specs. But I’m sure you’ll be fine

If an Amazon seller says it has the same contents as another book and it does not, Amazon will force them to refund you. Just make sure that they say it explicitly. Also, that would create the problem of you not having a book.
