If I am planning to take 1B this fall and 1A next spring, which edition should I get for the Campbell book? I know they just came out with the 9th edition but I can get the 8th edition at a much cheaper price. The price of the 8th edition is 1/10 of that of the 9th edition. Is there usually a preference for the newer edition? Is there much noticeable difference between the two? Which one would be better for my case? Thanks.

Bump!!!

get a cheap $20 one, any edition. your main source of study material should be from lecture anyway.

Just don’t get he loose leaf because they don’t post the pages to read in that. Only for the 7th and 8th edition do they post which pages to read from.

get the cheapest one. never opened the book when i took either of these course.

I opened it, I read it way early, and then I never took the time to read it before the test so it wasn’t that helpful.

In college, the Campbell textbook is useful for only two things: studying for Bio 1B plant labs and studying for the GRE Biology subject test.

Since the latter probably does not apply to you, I would just get the cheapest copy available.

The post pages to read for 1B. Do they do the same for 1A?

yeah but no one reads them. i think i opened my textbook less than 5 times during the entirety of both 1a & 1b and still got high A’s in both.

you don’t even need the textbook, it’s a waste of money. maybe download an illegal copy online just in case if you’re that worried.

Get the latest version, that way you can sell it for the most money when you’re done. Once everybody switches to the 9th edition, the 8th will be worthless. You can check for the best prices at [Campbell Biology 9th Edition Price Search](http://campbellbiologybook.com).

there’s one on the link i gave you www.calbooksandreaders.com

i don’t think paying more and having the new edition is worth it. you can buy it new, but you’re not going to get much back for it. you can buy this one and sell it for about the same price because it is already cheaper.
