Bio 1a/l

Are iClickers necessary for bio 1a/l? Also, is it necessary to do all the readings assigned before class?

it says in the syllabus that we might need an iclicker. it depends on the professors, if they decide to use it for their section.

if by necessary, you mean mandatory, I don’t think so. it’s just recommended.

last year they said you might need iclicker but we never used it.

readings aren’t completely unnecessary.

Thanks. I guess I won’t be getting one then.

How do labs work? Would it be possible to answer the questions beforehand (the questions due at the end of lab) instead of doing them during lab? Or is that considered cheating?

i don’t think they really care. worksheets aren’t part of your grade. i’d say answer them beforehand if you know it, but make changes to it if you learn something in lab or add to what you had already written down?

Oh, ok. I see. He did mention in lab lecture that they would be graded though but not thoroughly? Thanks, stly. I think I’ll do that and make it easier on myself.

Do you know how detailed the lab quizzes will be? There seems to be too much to memorize for the chordates lab…

I know I feel like my mind is bursting with taxonomy groups.

bio 1a/al is so effing hard. i dont understand anything… first lecture 1a… i was like… i dunno the terms = =

lab in a little…-.-

can we wear shorts?

how about printing lab manual?

I think you would need the lab manual during lab. It should be helpful.

good game…i dont want to print that big manual out…

no shorts/open toed shoes. they dont really care though.

i’m just going to be printing the manual out as needed, and using the lowest ink setting on my printer. i have a very efficient printer.

The lab manual is about ~$15. I think it’s worth it.

Is there a GSI office hour schedule for bio 1a/l? The folder in the resource section is empty.

you don’t need to print it out for this lab

i had mine tuesday and our quiz was really hard, he graded them in class and the highest score was 70%

@flutterfly: why don’t we need to print it out? i thought we have continuously refer to it throughout the lab to answer questions on the worksheet.

also, was the quiz just on Lab lecture + memorization of the timelines? for some reason i thought we had to know the lab manual in a lot of detail, but my GSI emailed me and said we just had to skim the manual real quick.

it depends on the GSI. the harder ones (like Christian or Helen) = memorize every little detail in the lab manual. the easy ones = skimming

oh i see. i assume if the GSI said skimming, then the lab manual probably won’t be quizzed on?

although i guess come test time, the students in the harder GSI’s section will be more prepared.

what’s on the quiz, and it’s level of difficulty all depends on your GSI, so it’s different for everyone.

During the lab, we did not use the manual at all because all the information we needed was provided at the various lab stations.

If you weren’t already going to do so, I suggest pre-completing whatever parts of the lab that you can answer ahead of time. It makes the lab less of a time crunch, and allows you to waste time “playing” with the animals.
