Anybody taking Bio 1AL? If you are, do you feel overwhelmed by the massive amount of reading we have to do every week? Anybody feel those weekly quizzes are pointless? I feel like it's way too much work for a 2-unit class.

man. blue elmo i wonder who u are. you're always on the same threads as me and it seems like we've been taking the same classes since freshman year. but yea, bio lab is way too much work for 2 units. but u expected that, no?

haha, guess we both in MCB, then.

oh alrite. i admit that was a stupid comment. but ur thread doesn't make much sense either. i mean... the fact that bio 1al is too much work for 2 units has been, and is always being b*tched about. the instructor even addressed it during the first lecture.

I HATE Bio 1AL.

Well, I'm just commenting on what my feelings are. So chill. Never said your comment was stupid or doesn't make sense.

would you guys suggest a lighter courseload when taking bio 1al? lol

At least the first part of 1AL uses some brain. The second part is worse, much worse. Granted, I got a A wink, though I had a like C+ on the lab final.

Lab final? Do you mean the practical exam? Good job, hypnos. We are only three weeks in and the quizzes are already killing me.

yeah, the one where you go around the stations and look at cut-up animals, also the one that can own you big time even if you memorize everything. So with that said, study hard and do well on the midterm, at least it's something that is "studyable".

i don't need to take bio1b, but what did and how did the professor address the 2 unit workload?

"i don't need to take bio1b, but what did and how did the professor address the 2 unit workload?"

Something to the effect of "... blah blah blah, I know there is a lot of work, blah blah blah, I can't do anything about it, so cry me a river... blah blah blah."

oh.. as expected. i thought they would actually take the students opinion and change for once.

They guy who teaches the lab portion, Mike Meighan, doesn't even have a Ph.D. or even a M.D. I guess since he doesn't run his own lab, he has too much time in his hands and bends all his thoughts in devising ways to make this course harder. Just my two cents.

To be fair, Bio 1A used to consist of both the lecture and the lab for 4 units. So, I think the school has listened to the needs of the students, but it's one of those half-way agreements where the school loses nothing by fully compromising. It's just a bit frustrating, oh well, at least it isn't as bad as it once was.
