eff bio 1b. i got a C- in the class

I can’t answer the question, as I haven’t taken the class, but I AM interested to know what you plan to do if the answer is “No.”

Put in the effort, try to figure out problems with your study techniques, and do as well as you can. Worrying about how things will turn out can’t do much besides hurt you once you’re past the drop deadline.

I took it in the Spring of 2011. If I remember correctly, I got a D+ on my first midterm! I worked harder after that and got above 85% on MT 2 and MT3.

I ended up with a B+. So, it might be hard to get an A if you do not get 90+ for the following midterms.

You’d have to get relatively high A’s and a good grade in lab I’d suspect. The class is hard enough as is to pull an A.

I took Biology in college many years ago and it was an easy A. When my son, who is a Geology major, complained to me that the Biology course he had to take to meet a distribution requirement was really hard I was incredulous. He showed me the text book and I was shocked at how much more difficult college level Biology is now compared to thirty years ago.

How is your section grade, I’ve heard (and being a student am experiencing) that section grade is the quiet assassin of bio 1b, so if you have a 90% in section after adjusting (i.e. your section grade is 90% while the average is 85%) then an A- to an A seems possible. I heard that the average on this last exam was 82% percent, so you’re probably not as bad as you think, so long as you keep up in section; remember: everyday in lab is ~ 3% of your grade.

Thanks for your input guys. I’m doing well compared with other students in my section…and Im sure there will be a curve since it seems as that the section I’m in is pretty challenging. I made really careless mistakes on the plant midterm which frustrates me since I really did understand the concepts and since I was doing decently well in lab for the plant section

kape1one, are you serious? i scored well above average for all 3 midterms, and still ended up with a B+. I was 0.5 points away from an A-. I got stuck with lab partners who were majoring in art history or didn’t know any bio at all…

and it was curved by section, so overall, my section was super smart. my lab group was the only one who scored pretty low thanks to the other partners. i did my best, but i mean, i don’t know everything…jeez…

@insertname,

Yeah, I am serious. I got around 88 on the second midterm. For the ecology midterm, I got around a 97. I couldn’t even believe it when I saw my scores!

For the lab, I was also with a bunch of MCB/IB majors (I am one too).

Ahh, this is making me nervous now. I did pretty well on the first midterm, but I feel like my lab section is full of smart people. Everyone seems to get like 100% on our labs and quizzes, and the average midterm score for our section was like an 85%. If I don’t get an A in the class, I feel like it’s going to be because of the lab section grade…
