Which one of these would you all think is better? Im interested in getting a good undergrad education, still being able to have a social life, being able to pay for the education, doing research, not being in a cutthroat atmos. Im interested in genetics and molecular biology, with hopes of getting into biotech later on, whether in grad school or in industry. im particularly interested in life extension and regenerative medicine, but that will have to come later on. For now, I ve narrowed down to Cornell and Carnegie Mellon. Which seems like a good fit? Please include any other comments about these two.

I'll give you a sales pitch for Cornell, although I have great respect for Carnegie Mellon.

Cornell's undergraduate program in genetics is ranked second in the Gourman Report. Carnegie Mellon did not make the list for genetics. Carnegie Mellon and Cornell are ranked 11th and 12th for molecular biology by Gourman.

Biological Sciences are the 4th largest subject area at Cornell. Molecular Biology and Genetics Dept resides jointly in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and in the College of Arts and Sciences. There is also molecular biology and genetics at the graduate level in the College of Veterinary Medicine and in the Weil Medical College Grad School in NYC. This is a very big area at Cornell.

Cornell has about 400 biology bachelors graduates each year. Carnegie Mellon has about 70 bachelors biology grads each year.

Cornell has a beautiful campus in a beautiful natural setting. Ithaca is a charming small city. Yes, there is a social life at Cornell, mostly Friday and Saturday nights. No, Cornell students are not cutthroat. Cornell students work very hard but they are friendly and down-to-earth. All the amenities and exciting intellectual life of an Ivy League experience are at your disposal.

collegehelp - you put it very nicely!!! I'm not a bio major, but I do know that the bio program here is huge, and very very strong.

I would say more, but collegehelp covered it all! I'll just end with the fact that it rocks here.
