Bio E Test or Bio M Test?

I am a 9th grader in Bio Honors right now. I ended with a 96.0 last semester, higher than a lot of my peers in the same bio class. This semester I currently have a 96.7.
With this said, my bio honors teacher recommended all of us to take the Bio E test, since we didn’t go in depth with organisms at the molecular level. Our book is the Pearson Biology iBook. Copyright 2012, written by Levine and Miller.
However, I myself do bad (as in 86-95% range on a test) on the bio tests regarding biomes, communities, energy flow, and environment. This was with a curve. On the other hand, I have beaten the curve when it comes to studying biological processes at the microscopic level.

Pros of Bio E test:
Recommended by teacher.
Apparently Easier.
Covered all material.

Pros for Bio M test:
Covered photosynthesis and cellular resp (at the surface and in depth)
I mastered the parts of the cell.
I do better on molecule-based biology.
More useful for a medical career (if I pursue one)

Cons for Bio E:
Harder for me to memorize (e.g. biomes…)

Cons for Bio M:
Some of the deeper content not covered.

Which test should I take? I am aiming for a 750-800.
Thanks.

Well, i think you should take the molecular one seeing your confidence and mastery of the subject. Also I have heard the curve is more forgiving on the sat molecular bio. You should take a couple more tests before giving the test and see which one you are doing better on, then take the test accordingly. You can decide which section you want to do when you take the sat. I would recommend preparing for both and then deciding which section you find easier right then

Thanks for your input.

I realize this post may be late, but freshman year Biology is not enough for these tests. I would suggest taking AP Biology first then concurrently take the SAT II along with the AP exam. If you want to take the SAT II earlier, then buy the AP textbook: (Campbell Biology 9th or 10th Edition, the big 1000 page textbook).

The SAT II is more like the old AP Bio exam and covers a lot of material, and freshman year biology does not provide the depth required for the SAT II. Taking AP Bio and this test would be an excellent idea.

@FutureDoctor2028 I dont think so. Its perfectly doable if you put in the time and effort. Especially in Bio which is based more on facts rather than application.

The Campbell textbook is overkill for the SAT II exam.

I would recommend M as well though. It has a nicer curve, and it sounds like you’ve already covered a lot of the M material.

Buy barron’s test prep book. It’s considered the the best for bio. Take the diagnostic test and find out whether you did better in E or M, and just stick to that.

My D did that may of freshman year with regular bio and scored a respectable 740 on the E test. Any score 700 is good. No school will make a distinction of whether it was in E or M.

Unfortunately, my school doesn’t permit students to take AP bio until senior year. The only way I would be able to take that course would be through another accredited program (e.g. JHU CTY). This would mean that I would have to take the Bio SAT this year (and maybe redo it during junior year if I take AP Bio through another program). Thank you all for your input.
