Thanks!

It's not a terribly difficult test -- just covers molecular/cellular, organismal, and ecology/evolution at approximately the same level as an intro biology course.

It shouldn't matter if you've had a college course in the subject matter if you're willing to do a little test prep -- I had never taken an ecology/evolution course and I still got 98th percentile in that subsection.

awesome; thanks =)

Since you seem to know the ropes of Bio Grad admissions, what would you say competitive Bio and regular GRE scores are?

On the subject test, most of the top schools (UCSF in particular) will want to see about an 85+ or 90+ percentile score, but it's not the end of the world if you don't have it. The majority of schools to which I applied made the subject test optional, so you could choose not to send your score if it's not as good as you'd like it to be.

I've seen regular GRE scores all over the board. It's better to have higher ones (duh), but I think it's a little more important to get a good score on the quantitative section than on the verbal section.

I don't really think GRE scores are ever really going to get you in or keep you out of a school, unless they're really bad. (And of course the definition of "really bad" varies from school to school.)

Piece of advice: Sign up for the Bio GRE in August when the official test dates/locations come out. There are horror stories every year of people who sign up too late and end up having to take the test in different states, etc.

thanks for the grat advice =)
