I was looking at assist.org and I was confused by some of the courses it's telling me to take to transfer.

What courses EXACTLY do you need to transfer in 2 years as a Bio major?

So far I've taken 2 semesters of Gen Chem w/lab, 1 semester of Gen. Bio, Genetics, and a bunch of other courses that I need in order to take classes like Calc. and Physics.

In another year I will have taken 2 semesters of O-Chem with lab, 1 semester of Physics with lab, 1 semester of Core Biology (which I think focuses on cellular structure+function), Pre-Calc, and 1 semester of Calculus.

By my count I should have more than 60 credits but are those classes enough to satisfy the pre-requisites to transer?

Read the assist articulation agreement carefully. All of the information you need is there. Typically you don’t have to take all of the classes that assist lists, but only a certain number of units from each category. This is especially true for science majors.

Minimum requirement should be

1 year gen chem
1 year gen bio
math/english finished

Transfer and finish in 3 years. (total ~ 5 years)

If you want to finish in 4 years you should finish
1 year g-chem
1 year o-chem
1 year gen bio (equivalent to 93, 94, 100L at UCI)
math/english, IGETC
genetics/biochemistry/molecular biology (equivalent to 97,98,99 at UCI)

The thing is that only a few community colleges have equivalent courses to bio 97,98,99 at UCI. If your college doesn’t offer them than try to go to a college that does. If you don’t finish 97,98,99 you will have to take them when you transfer putting a year behind most bio majors. So that will probably take you 4+ years unless you push a lot of courses in the summer.

I would say it is better off not transferring to UCI if your school doesn’t offer equivalent courses to bio 97,98,99. You could probably finish in four years somewhere else. But if you are not concern about time than this shouldn’t bother you.

Well the only reason I was considering UCI is bc it’s not that far from me. I don’t want to go to UCR either. I would try for UCLA but I have a feeling my GPA wouldn’t be high enough. What about UCSD, is it hard to get in there as a bio major?

Also for these classes:

“genetics/biochemistry/molecular biology (equivalent to 97,98,99 at UCI)”

I took Genetics at my CC but I guess it doesn’t count since assist.org isn’t regarding it as the same thing. Also I think my school offers biochem and molecular biology but again, assist.org isn’t saying they are equivalent. that sucks

Yea many schools have them but only some schools are approved to be equivalents to the courses at UCI. Always check assist.org before you take them.
