Just wondering, how hard is it to get into UCSD for majoring in biology, as a freshman? And if possible, what are some average stats for getting into the biology major?

I know its impacted, would applying as undecided help admission chances if I was on the lower end of accepted bio majors?

Thank you in advance! :)

as far as i know, UCSD does things a certain way. They first see if you are qualified for UCSD, then they see if you fit your major. If it isn’t impacted then usually you are golden, but if it’s impacted they will either accept you as that major OR they will mark you as undecided.

I read this when i was applying (2 years ago ish?) so things may have changed.

stat wise: [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/)
do a custom table (the latest stats are from 2009, but it will give you some idea, though things have changed with the whole holistic admission process, etc.)

It’s pretty difficult (since A LOT of people are applying as a bio major), but if you’re a good applicant, it shouldn’t be impossible.

I applied as a human bio major in my UC app. I was admitted as undeclared due to its impact. After I submitted my SIR, however, I received an email stating that there was room for human bio so they took the liberty to accept me into that major.

In other words, apply to ucsd as a bio major despite of the dept’s impact. Chances are there will be space for you after SIRs are submitted.

I believe your major choice has little impact on your admissions (though don’t quote me on that).

Additionally, the bio major is impacted so even if you apply as undeclared and get into UCSD, there’s a second process to get into the department. Therefore, don’t apply undeclared.

Applying as a biology major DOES NOT affect your chances of getting into the university. You get admitted, and then they consider you for the major.
