Bio Major

I think that’s what Oxiate meant lol. Like they said, as a chem major you basically only have to take 2 bio classes because all the other pre-med requirements are already part of the required curriculum for the chem major.

HAHA basket weaving is always the go-to example ;)

Speaking of MCAT, can you take it only once? Or are you allowed but taking once is better or something? Cause this Dr I met in this internship was like if you take twice, then destroy the first one completely or something… kinda scary… And is there like a “pre-med” students group that meet up to study together or anything?

Hmmm I’m actually not sure about that. It’s a good question. Honestly, I haven’t heard of anyone taking it more than once so it does make you wonder…I do know that people study HARDCORE for them lol. I am like 95% sure I am not going to go to med school but I am still strongly considering optometry school.

There is AMSA (American Medical Student Association) that is for people who are planning on entering any type of medical field, Pre-SOMA, and Pre-dental.

Is MAPS still active? That’s for minorities interested in health fields. You can take it more than once, but it is frowned upon from what I’ve heard. Like heavily frowned upon lol unless your score greatly improves and it was really low the first time.

yea… well, MCAT will be AFTER I get in so I won’t worry about it now haha. Omgg AMSA? I think that’s really cool hahaha. Oh! Are professors generally friendly? As in friendly enough to help me when I struggle with materials and stuff? And the tutoring center… is it really helpful?

Oh my goodness… I have SO many questions haha. It’s cause like Im the first child to go to college and Im JUST starting to get info bout colleges… I was seriously eeky about TCNJ somehow but now I am totally anxious to go! If i get in that is lol

I’m the first born and my parents weren’t much help lol since they did most of their education abroad. I’ve gotten a lot of help though from HazelEyez and Glacius, they’ve been putting up with my many questions for almost a year now :)

Yeah I’m pretty sure MAPS is still active.

Yes the professors are VERY friendly (at least from what I’ve experienced they are lol). I went to every single one of my bio prof’s office hours and I seriuosly emailed my chem prof about 20 times in one weekend with questions lol. They like when students ask questions and look for help - it’s better than not taking initiative and doing badly.

awwww comestarg. that’s so cuteee hahahaha. Im actually the first kid to go to college in America since my parents, too, studied abroad lol. So im pretty much lost

Oh! Im glad you emailed your chem professor so many times! Now I know I can email professors a bit more than that haha.

Speaking of MAPS with minorities, are there a lot of minorities? Most are caucasians right? People generally bland in and all right?

Nah not a lot of minorities, it is mostly caucasian from what I’ve seen of statistics and the times I visited. Idk how everyone blends since I have yet to start, but I doubt it’s a big deal.

I would say there are def more caucasians overall at TCNJ however some of my bio classes have been mostly minorirites (but that might just have to do with scheduling lol). IMO TCNJ is very well “blended.” The diversity is noticeable but not overwhelming.disclaimer this is NOT meant to be offensive please do not take it that way lol…I simply mean that while there may be more Caucasians I do not feel as if they completely overwhelm the minorities. There are quite a few organizations for minorities (there are Asian, Latin, Indian, African American, etc. groups) and they are all very active in the community. I have been to many cultural events on campus and have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them.

@ hazeleyez: hey wen it says you have to fulfill a gender, race, etc. does that mean take a class in one of the liberal learning requirements and then secondarily it satisifes a race thing…in other words do u have to literally take a course JUST to fulfill like a race or are they fulfilled by taking a liberal learning class (lets say beh/social) and then it fulfills race?

your liberal learning requirements are divided into categories. essentially your gender, race, behavioral, global, etc. requirements ARE your liberal learning requirements. for example, my FSP was Irish Cinema. Not only did this count as my FSP but it was also global so it fulfilled one of my global liberal learning requirements. does that make sense? some courses are considered to be under more than one liberal learning category (for example, History of Jazz will fulfill a Race & ethnicity requirement AS WELL as a Literary, Visual & Performing Arts requirement).

sorry, i know it can be really confusing lol

if you go on your PAWS account you can go to “Academic Requirements” and it will show you the breakdown of what you must complete. As you take courses it will mark them as complete on PAWS.

hey question! is it harder to get financial aid if accepted in by early decision? and when applying for early decision, does my senior year grade not count into my overall gpa?

idk bout the financial aid, since I too will be applying for TCNJ as a bio major, but I believe that they take a look at what classes you take during senior year. They want you to keep taking hard classes senior year and not all electives.

financial aid can’t change because it’s based on need, merit aid maybe applying ED would effect, but that’s just my opinion.
