Bio medical engineering

Hi,
I am a freshman this year and i am interested in bio medical engineering. Prior to this i am starting a club called HOSA. I was wondering if HOSA would help me get into john hopkins. Also anyone got any tips that will increase my chance in getting into john hopkins?
Thanks in advance!

The first tip is to get the name right. It is Johns Hopkins (not John Hopkins).

Samuel Clemens (“Mark Twain”) gave a speech at Hopkins in the 19th Century where he made fun of the name (Johns was actually a family name but it was given as a first name to the founder’s grandfather, for whom the founder was named). I’m paraphrasing, but he said something like: “People are sensitive to little things, and they might not be impressed by a University that doesn’t know how to spell John.”

It’s also rumored that Milton Eisenhower, the University president during much of the 1950’s and 1960’s, was being introduced to speak at some function in Pittsburgh. The person doing the introduction described him as the President of John Hopkins. Eisenhower thanked him, and said how happy he was to be in Pittburgh.

You get my point.

The two biggest pieces of advice I can give you:

 1. Don’t lock yourself in to a major or field yet - you may decide in a year that history or physics or economics or Spanish is what you really love.
 2. Pursue whatever you’re passionate about. If biology/engineering/science is really what you’re passionate about, then get involved in science related clubs at your school. At least at my high school. HOSA was far more health-care-career oriented than it was science oriented. See if your school does Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, Robotics, or any other competitions and get involved in those. Take as many classes as you can in the sciences, but if there’s something outside of science that interests you, don’t keep yourself from studying it too. In a year or two, if you think you might be interested in research, look for summer research opportunities to work in a lab at a local university

i am doing ib bio hl so that would help me… and do you have any other tips? anything to stand out?
thanks in advance
