Bio or Literature?

I just have a question about two SAT 2 subject tests. Literature and Bio M. I am going to take AP Language and Composition this year. The teacher who I have is notorious for being a hard teacher, but she really preps the kids up for the AP Test. I have not taken AP Biology yet. After completing the course of AP Lang and Comp should I take the Lit subject test? Or should I study independtly for the Bio Subject test? Which one is easier?

Are you a rising junior? I would take the Eng. Lit subject test after you are already prepped for the AP English exam (May of next year). Neither are easy, but think it makes sense to wait and take the Lit test. Are you taking any other SAT II’s this year? I don’t know what your other strong subjects are, but if you are planning to take a language with listening you would need to take it in Nov. (not offered at other times). Just a heads up, because I just found this out for Japanese. Better to take it this year then next Nov. when in the middle of applications.

Bio. would be a good subject test to take though if that’s one of your strongest subjects. The College Board has a good guide book with all the subject study guides included. Worth the $22. Good luck!

thanks jkiwmom. and yea so after I take my AP Lang & Comp exam, then should i begin prep for the lit test? is the material on that test easier then of self study of bio? and I have taken math 2 and got an 800 and will take chem and us history

You should take the Lit SAT II as close to your AP exam as possible.
I took AP Bio and AP Lit this year. I took the subject tests the weekend before the AP tests and got a 780 and a 740 which I was quite pleased with.

So take the Lit test as close to the AP Lang test as possible because thats when you will be most prepared.
I would recommend using Sparknotes practice tests to study for SAT II bio. The scoring is inaccurate…but the test and questions are dead on!

hey thanks soontobesenior, i just have a question for you. did you study for the sat 2 lit and ap lang exam differently? like did you study 1, and then study for the other? or are the material similar? and im taking bio as a self study, is that a good idea considering im taking 4 other sat 2’s including lit?

I did not study for either differently. I actually found them very similar. In fact, there isn’t much studying you can do for those type of tests (english/reading comprhesion and analyzation tests). It’s all about practice, i.e. just getting better at reading quickly and analyzing, which is what you will learn in your AP Lang course. So try hard in that course, do your work, and I suspect that you will do very well on both AP lang and SAT II Literature.

Have you taken a bio course before? IF not, I don’t recommend taking it. Most colleges require two, max. three, SAT IIs tests. In fact, I suggest just starting with two that you feel best about.
But, if you feel like testing the waters on this one, go to sparknotes and take the practice test for each of the subjects and see how well you do. That might be a good indicator of which tests you should take.
Remember, these cost money and are time and energy consuming. You can only take three at once too. Pick two or three that you feel best about, take them at the beginning of may, and if your scores arent where you want, take them again or take different ones in the June SAT or the September SAT.

Hope this helps sorry that was long!
