Bio over the summer?

At my school you can/have to take bio when you’re a junior and have the traditional 3 options of AP, honors, and college prep. If you take AP there is no prerequisite so no in the class has ever taken bio before. Next year about 140/300, almost half of my grade is taking AP (anyone think that is a really high #?). Anyways my parents really want me to take it because 1. I haven’t taken an AP science yet 2. Colleges look at AP courses offered and compare it to what you choose to take. Since science isn’t my strongest area (I’m usually an A- student in honors science courses) I was thinking of taking regular bio at a local high school this summer so I am ahead of the game. Do you think this is a good idea, or am I being overly ambitious? I already found a school that offers it 5 hours a day, 5 days a week for 6 weeks but am not sure if it’s a good idea.

I think its a good idea to take regular bio over the summer before AP because you will have some background on what you’re learning. Many schools require the regular/honors class before the AP science, so I’m surprised that your school doesn’t require it. If you take it over the summer you will be prepared for the AP class since you have no previous bio/AP science experience and you won’t be learning everything for the first time. If you find that regular bio is too hard or you don’t like it enough to take the AP class you could switch to honors when the school year starts, or if your school gives you credit for the summer class and you don’t want to take AP, you could take a different class.
