Bio / Pre-med track

My daughter really liked Providence campus feel but she is top in her class at a private and demanding well respected HS. She wants to go to medical school. I have heard mixed messages on PC with regards to their science program. It seemed only 15 or so Seniors went on to Medical school if that. If you know you want medical school should you go for a school more like Holly Cross , Brandeis, or Amherst college ? Or does it really matter as long as you do well, do research, volunteer at hospitals, etc.
Is it better to be top few at PC or middle of the pack in an Ivy or most selective school ?

What can anyone tell me about their experience at PC if wanted to go to medical school.

All viewpoints welcomed.

What I have learned on CC about pre-med is that what gets you in to med school is MCAT scores and gpa, not so much what particular UG school you go to. Recommendations may factor in there as well. Also, folks have recommended to save your dollars for med school as total loans are capped.
That being said, PC is an expensive school (as are the other privates you mention), however your daughter sounds like she may be a candidate for significant merit money at PC and probable invitee into Liberal Arts Honors (which are the students that get merit $).
How many students from PC applied to med school – the 15 doesn’t mean much without that information. Maybe your D she should try contacting the pre-med advisors or department head of bio to get more specific information. My D is about to start her freshman year there (not pre-med) and she has found her advisors and department heads to be extremely approachable. They have been very helpful to her this summer in getting her courses scheduled.
Best of luck to your D in her college search!
