Bio- Respiration ATP Net Yield

Well, in the sparknotes online study guides it says..........
"Four ATP molecules are produced by glycolysis and the Krebs cycle combined. The electron transport chain produces 34 ATP."

However, in the Barrons and CliffsAP book it says the electron transport chain (oxidative phosphorylation) produces 32 ATP for a total of 36 ATP in aerobic respiration.

I always thought that the later was correct--- which is it?????? Im getting really confused here ...

Both are correct as there is a discrepancy of whether to count the 2 ATP or not.

there's a total production of 38 ATP, and a net production of 36 ATP (because of the 2 ATP invested in glycolysis). Usually, we care about the net production.
