Biochem/Bio versus Biochem/Chem at UCSD

I'm an incoming Freshman at UCSD in the Fall, currently with a declared major in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Personally, I like Chemistry a lot more than Biology and I have been exposed to two years of Chemistry in high school as opposed to only one year of Biology. I am thinking about changing my major to Biochemistry/Chemistry, but I am somewhat nervous about the Math 20 Series and Physics 2 Series. Can anyone help me distinguish more of a difference between the Biochem/Bio and Biochem/Chem majors at UCSD, along with giving their own input and personal experiences with these majors? Thanks.

I would stay in Biochem/Bio for the time being and take some classes first. Since bio is impacted, it’ll be near impossible to switch back if you decide you like the bio department better. The physics and math requirements for the chem department are definitely harder.

For most grad schools you’re going to need to take a whole year of physics (mechanics is physics I usually, and electromagnetism is physics II), and math all the way up to multivariable calculus.

If you’re looking at seriously pursuing a chemistry related graduate degree, then you should probably go the Math 20 and Physics II route.
