Biochem major?

So I'm a junior in HS right now, but I was thinking about eventually going to pharmacy school. Is biochem the best thing to major in for such a route?
Can someone describe the major? How difficult is it, is it more like biology or chemistry, memorization or conceptual application?

It is one of the most appropriate majors because many pre-pharm pre-requisites are fulfilled by the biochemistry major. A lot of biochemistry majors are also pre-pharm. Keep in mind you will have to take a lot of organic chemistry labs, and possibly a lot of classes outside the major for pharm school requirements, which vary between pharm school. Best way to know is check each pharm school in which you are interested. Major pre-requisites such as the lower division classes of mathematics, life science, chemistry and physics are just like those for the other sciences. The upper division stuff is okay. It depends which classes and which instructors teach the courses, but a mix of critical thinking and mindless memorization. There’s a lot of flexibility in the choice of upper division coursework, so one answer does not apply. The upper division electives can come from other departments, such as MIMG and EEB, so again one answer does not work. The biochemistry classes themselves are more chemistry than biology.
