Biochem & Mol Bio & Astronomy Majors at Wesleyan

Could someone please tell me how strong are the Molecular Bio and Astronomy departments at Wesleyan? How well do they compare to other LACs? How many majors are there in each department? :)

I know people in both departments, and they love them. Both are fairly small (moreso astronomy, don’t have exact numbers). Wesleyan has better astronomy facilities than almost every other LAC. we have three telescopes, a 24 inch reflector, a 20 inch refractor, and a 16 incher for use both for learning and public viewing on cloudless Wednesday nights.

Ok, thanks very much!

Lots of opportunity for research in both departments. Astronomy is small, but the undergrads I know all did research as a result, and there are grad students, too. I worked in the observatory collecting data for some of the researchers - it was fun. And molecular bio, there are a ton of labs & lots of opportunity to work with professors on research.

I don’t know much about the classes, though. Everyone I know in these programs seemed really happy.

Our science departments are best among the liberal arts colleges simply because we are a university. Thus we have graduate students and undergraduate students in the sciences. MB&B has some of the best professors and probably has about 20 students per class. Bio is a much more popular major. I don’t know much about the astronomy department.

That’s good to hear. Thanks very much! :)
