bioe bs/ms as an alternate if medschool doesnt work out

This is true, and even the undergrad program has jumped up in the rankings (#7, I believe? …grad school is still #5, though).

Anyways, I’ll probably be joining the major this year, and I think it’s a gross exaggeration to say that med school is easier to get into. Bioe honestly isn’t that selective; however, it’s not a bad plan to have some sort of backup major in mind. Unfortunately, they’re not doing direct admission this year, so you can’t just apply and be automatically admitted.

Check out this webpage for some more info:

[Apply - Undergraduate Programs - Prospective Students - Education - Bioengineering -UW College of Engineering - University of Washington, Seattle](http://depts.washington.edu/bioe/education/prospective/educ_undergrad_apply.html)

You could apply for Early Admission at the end of freshman year, or do Upper Admission in the middle of Sophomore year.

If you have some sort of college credit, that will probably help; it’s good if your UW GPA will be > 3.6, too. If you are a good student, this is easy enough to achieve…basically, look over some of the info in that link and see if you think things will work out for you. If wouldn’t hurt to email the undergraduate admissions advisor either (knichols@u.washington.edu) and see what her opinion is on any of your questions or your situation.

As for your original question, I don’t know if it would work out. You would probably only find out about med school decisions after becoming part of the BS/MS program, and I don’t know if you could just randomly quit the program. On the other hand, I don’t see why you couldn’t, either…you’d have to talk to and advisor for this info. It’s a good plan, though; if you don’t get into med school, having something planned for that year after college is smart, and you can just apply for med school again.

Ok, I have to leave or I’ll be late to Sanskrit…I hope my ramblings were somewhat useful.
