BioE + CS double major

I was admitted to the College of Engineering (as a freshman) for BioE but I am also considering majoring in CS. I was wondering if anyone could explain how I would go about doing that, any experiences they might have had with this, and whether the CS major would be from CoE or L&S (i.e. whether it’d be a double major or a simultaneous degree). Thanks :slight_smile:

PS: I’m aware that this would be a lot of work and that there are other similar options (like a CS minor or just going with the Computational BioE concentration), but I was wondering what it’d be like if i theoretically wanted to major in both BioE and CS.

@quetzelcoatlus

You can petition for EECS.
And that will be double major under CoE.

Berkeley has two majors, EECS B.S. and CS B.A., the B.S. is offered through CoE and would be considered a double major. The B.A. is offered through L&S and would be considered a simultaneous degree. The choice is ultimately yours but I would suggest looking into A) the focus of each major and which one appeals to you more and B) the LD and UD requirements for each.

Keep in mind both of these majors are impacted and doing the lower division for both majors and doing well may be a challenge. Hope this proves useful, best of luck!
