BioE

Is UC Davis known for its bioE program?

I’m a biomedical engineering major (BME), but UC Davis has a biosystems engineering major and a biochemical engineering option, too. I’m not sure which you meant specifically, but I’ll respond as if you meant BME, because that’s the only one I know much about.

The answer is no, UC Davis is not particularly known for its BME program. (I’m very happy with it, regardless.) The field itself is so young that there are few places that are known for their BME programs. (In my opinion, UCD is as good as any.) Also, keep in mind that it doesn’t matter that much at the undergraduate level.

I’ve only really heard of three places known for their BME programs: UW (“U Dub”), UC San Diego, and Georgia Tech. I don’t know how UC Davis stacks up against them!

There isn’t a bioE program at UCD, is there? I thought it was just BME and biological systems engineering, that’s as close as it gets. I’m not sure though.

I know this isn’t really my thread, but about how many BME’s are there at UCD or how many per class? It doesn’t seem like a very popular major. I’m an incoming freshman under BME…

its biomedical engineering

UC Davis has the largest engineering department of all the UC’s. There is most certainly a BME major at UCD. Here is a list of all the majors.

I have a question. Which one would you perfer for biomedical engineering? UCDAvis or cal poly slo. Also I guess the thing that really gets to me is that if i decide to go get my phd at ucsd, would they rather accept a cal poly bme or a ucdavis? Would davis boost up my chances to get in? Heeelp!

If you are considering a PHD go with a UC as the teaching style is more theoretical. Only you can pick which of the UC’s suits you best for your undergrad work. Go and visit to see if you have a preference.

I went to Decision UC Davis and asked a representative how many BME’s there are at UCD, and she said they were looking for about 90 in the freshman class, and added that it’s competitive.
