would any of you guys say these terms are interchangable? it seems at some places they are, but at others Biomedical specifically refers to medical instrument development. should i apply at somewhere like JHU or Rutgers (whose programs are called Biomedical engineering) if i am looking for Bioengineering, like working with Artificial organs and such.

Depending on who you ask, some may say yes and others will say no.

My definition of bioengineering is the application of biology and engineering to solve various problems. It is a broader term and encompasses all fields of engineering that uses biology to solve problems. Biomedical engineering, on the other hand, is the utilization of engineering skills to solve medical problems. I would say biomedical engineering is a subfield of bioengineering.
