Hi My son got admitted into the Bioengineering in Berkeley class of 2025. I was looking for advice/opinions on this . Is this a good major coming from Berkeley and what are the internship/job prospects ? or is it too specialized for an Under grad degree or " jack of all" engineering field ? I understand from a lesser place, BME or BE is not generally recommended as UG but how about from Berkeley ? It is ranked 7th for UG . My son also got into UCLA undeclared engineering. pros and cons of the two.
Post-graduation survey results can be looked up here:

You can select specific majors.
Hi I read that bioengineering in Berkeley is not ABET accredited… Is that a bad thing?
If you want to get a Professional Engineer license (most common with civil engineering) or take the patent exam, ABET accreditation for your degree is necessary or very helpful.
Otherwise, it depends… ABET accreditation signifies meeting a fairly high minimum standard of quality, content, and rigor in the curriculum. For most colleges, having an engineering major ABET accredited validates the quality of the curriculum. For some of the most highly recognized colleges for engineering majors, they may not need ABET accreditation for their degrees to be seen as high quality (however, even if they drop or choose not to get ABET accreditation for some majors, they will generally get and retain it for civil engineering if they have civil engineering).
Perhaps someone familiar with bioengineering employers may be better able to comment on if they care if someone’s bioengineering degree is ABET accredited. Medical schools (a common target for bioengineering majors) would not care.
