Bioengineering Programs

I am very interested in pursuing bioengineering as an undergraduate degree. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any reputable schools with good bioengineering programs. I would also like to know if there is anywhere that I could find rankings for bioengineering programs (I tried looking it up in US News but could not find anything about it). Thanks!

there's also biomedical engineering, does it matter which one?

I think bioengineering and biomedical engineering are often used interchangeably. I have heard that bioengineering has more to do with body mechanics. Biomedical includes tissue engineering, electronic components, or body mechanics. Something like that. Anyway, Johns Hopkins.

Yes, biomedical engineering and bioengineering are very similar, but bioengineering is more of a mixture between biotechnology and biomedical engineering. Biomed eng. deals with designing pacemakers, prostheses, etc., whereas bioeng. deals with application of engineering principles to medical problems. Biotechnology, on the other hand, is the commerical use of living organisms to improve animal and human health, agriculture, and the environment.

oh ok, well JHU and Duke

JHU (#1), Duke (#2), Penn, WUSTL, Michigan, Berkeley...maybe a few others.

Isn't this the specialty of UCSD engineering?

UCSD is 3rd...forgot to mention it. :D

i'm probably beating a dead horse but definitely jhu and duke. if i were you i'd choose duke bc i love it there and many people tell me jhu doesn't care much about their undergraduates bc there so obsessed with research. i have several cousins who go there/have gone there.

oops i forgot to say the reason why i like duke is because the people are really friendly, lots of school spirit, and of course the school is very prestigious (:

I would say JHU and Duke also. If not, look into schools with near biotech hotspots. UCSD in San Diego, UCB in the San Francisco bay area can offer alot I am sure and may be advantageous with placements *esp in the myraid pharmaceutical or biotech companies in the region as these two areas are magnetic centers for attracting such industry.

I have heard that the new UC, UC Meced, is focusing on biotech. Not sure if this is true but worth checking.

Not surprisingly, the best bioengineering programs are affiliated with the major referral centers: Duke-Duke Med Center, Case-Univ Hosp of Cleveland/Cleveland Clinic, GaTech-Emory, Rice-Texas Medical Center, JHU-JHU. For undergrad research opportunities in major med centers Duke, Rice and Case all concentrate on undergraduate education and collaborate with the best in medicine.

Yeah, i've heard that Georgia Tech is really good
