What are the differences between these two careers? Also, which career is more exciting in terms of research and development and requires a stronger knowledge of math and science?

The primary difference is that BioMedical Engineering produces a few more points on the Scrabble board. Other than that they are pretty much the same.

I'd be careful judging too much based on the name alone. Mostly they mean similar things, but sometimes Bioengineering indicates a bioinformatics or agricultural focus, etc. The best way to tell is to look at the research interests of the faculty and the courses offered at a particular university. Even within BME, there are big differences between departments at different schools. The same goes for careers, the names are often interchangable.

pretty much the same thing. i think bioengineering is a more specific engineering discipline under BME. i know that the university of pitt has bioengineering and that it has 3 specific concentrations and you choose one.
