bioengineering vs. pre-med bioengineering

does it make a difference which of these i apply to on the application as far as being accepted into the bioengineering major? i know it is an extremely competitive major and i dont want to make it any harder to get in than it already is. i plan to take the MCAT eventually and go to med school, but my main focus right now is to get into my preferred major.

Pre-med BioE isn't impacted whereas BioE is impacted.

thanks. i found it on the ucsd site now too.

Put bioE as your first choice, and bioE: pre-med as second. If you don't get into bioE, you'll still get into to bioE: pre-med because it's not impacted.

^ is there a chance that you wont get into pre-med and put on undeclared because technically, it is still an engineering major?

If I understand correctly, you have to be accepted to the Jacobs School of Engineering. If you are, you are basically automatically accepted into any not impacted major (like bioE: pre-med) and can transfer between the open majors as much as you want.

So if you get put on undeclared instead of bioE: pre-med, you didn't get accepted by the school of engineering.

Also, if you get put into undeclared, it's not really that bad. You can still major in anything except engineering and the impacted majors (which are all engineering anyway).

You can still get into Engineering. It's not the end of the world if you don't get into your first choice major as a Freshman. You'll have a chance to transfer into the major later on. Even though people say it's difficult, it's not that bad. Some kids just mellow out in college, fail, and there you are, willingly accepting their spots.
