I was accepted into UCSD for Electrical Engineering, my alternate major. I was really hoping that I would get into Bioengineering, but unfortunately that didn't work out.

Is it possible to appeal and switch majors?

I have a letter of recommendation from a professor with whom I interned with over the summer; I believe he is friends with one of the bioengineering professors at UCSD. Could that help in any way?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Since you got in, I don’t think you have to make an appeal to change majors. I think it is possible to just change majors. However, bioengineering is very difficult/almost impossible to switch into because it is an impacted major. If you really had your heart set on doing something related to bioengineering, think about trying to switch majors into bioengineering:bioinformatics. It focuses more on the molecular and cellular side of bioengineering, but it is not an impacted major, which makes it possible to change to from electrical engineering.
