Bioengineering

Right now, I'm hesitant to apply to bioengineering because I think it will be highly competitive to get in. I'm #1 (4.692 GPA weighted and unweighted GPA is 4.0) in my class with a 31 ACT Score (math and science score of 30). Additionally, my SAT II Subject Test Scores seem way too low for comparison... Math 2 at 660 (Planning on retaking in December) and Chemistry at 710. My school has mediocre rankings and I have a handful of very passionate leadership positions in this school.
My question now is...
1. Is it worth risking my chances at Berkeley by applying to bioengineering?
2. Will colleges look at the 660 Math 2 score and cringe even if I'm able to pull up my score on the December exam?

Only person I know the stats of in BioE got waitlisted and then accepted with ~2300 and 800s on Math II and Chem and a GPA around yours (also tied for #1 in HS).

Your essays and ECs can make a big difference though. They don’t just want to accept super high stat kids, they want diversity in interests and capability.

Are the ECs related to engineering or bioengineering in any way? That would be a very good plus.

Unfortunately I don’t have too many engineering ECs. Most of mine are community service leadership positions. Thanks so much for responding. After pondering, I’m thinking of applying to Berkeley in Letters and Science. Will my chances be higher in that college?
