Bioengineering

Are there any Berkeley Bioengineering students in this forum that can tell me how difficult the major is. I got admitted to Berkeley for Bioengineering and I am just curious how much studying I should do over the summer to prep if I go to Berkeley.

I am a freshmen bioengineering student. From all the conversations I have had with my coworker who recently graduated as a bioe major, other upper div and grad students, there is a general agreement that it is one of the tougher engineering majors at Cal. There is an incredible number of lower and upper div courses required, and the program is fairly unstructured such that you may graduate with a technical background that isn't as strong as other engineers in other engineering disciplines unless you plan your courses and electives carefully (specialization) (very long sentence!).

lol. Thanks for the insight!!! That helps clear up my decision. I also got into Davis Biomedical engineering but I dont know which to chose!!! So on a scale of 1-10 10 being the hardest how difficult would you say the curriculum is?

I was also admitted into the College of Engineering - Bio (as well as Bioengineering / Pre-Med at UCSD)

What are some options after the first couple years at Berkeley? Is it uncommon for someone in the bioengineering program to apply to Haas in their second year? or perhaps Medical School after 4 years? I decided on Berkeley because I was not sure if Bioengineering would be the thing for me in a couple years (which is all UCSD is good for, i heard)

I got into UCSD Bioengineering/Pre-Med too but its too far away and the campus is too distracting. I also got in Irvine with Bioengineering but Irvine is a commuter school and most people dont like it. I want to stay closer to home anyway. But ya as of right now I am going to either USF or Davis. Not sure which, they each have their own pros and cons. But I hope that you have fun at Berkeley quasimoto and I might just see you there in the Fall.

BioE is known for the loads of prereq classes that you need to take. I don't know how one can do BioE and Haas at the same time, unless you are a genius or something.

BioE/PreMed is not all that uncommon. Quite a number of people, including me, is doing it right now.

"Is it uncommon for someone in the bioengineering program to apply to Haas in their second year?"

That is highly uncommon since the prereqs for both majors have almost nothing in common.
