BioEs Need Not Apply

It is only the ABET certified impacted majors Bioengineering: Bioengineering and Bioengineering: Biotechnology that are ranked. Even these specific programs are ranked by graduate level (on U.S. News report). I was one of the lucky 100 to make it into the Bioengineering: Bioengineering, but from what I hear, its fairly difficult to get a job in the bioengineering industry with a B.S.

This means the Bioengineering: Pre-medical is not ranked (as it is not the certified impacted program that is ranked by US News).

5 people get accepted into the PHD program at UCSD every year, 25 people into the graduate.

But I guess since you are considering entering the medical field it shouldn't be a problem.

i am a freshman, and i am interested in entering the BME field.
thankx (again) for telling this now...i guess i will have to choose a traditional eng. major.

as of now i plan to major in Chem E...

Everlast, I am pretty sure some classes at UCSD are restricted to only BioE:bioengineering, and BioE:biotech majors. You could probably petition though, but they don't like other majors taking them. It is disgusting.

BioE is garbage through and through. It is only good as a pre-med major.

Subjecttochange, a good friend of mine is graduating with a degree is BioChemE, and has a job lined with already making over 60K a year. She will work in Pharma industry. So not everything releated to BioE is garbage.

Well BioChem E is a branch in ChemE...

if she had a BME degree she would have had a hard time getting a job compared to a degree in Chem E

subject, I did notice the restricted ones earlier, which irritated me. Either way, I've decided to get a chem E degree, and specialize in biochem.

^ UCSD has no real Chemical engineering. Heck, it doesn't even have real CHEMISTRY. Everything at UCSD has a biomed slant to it, the chemistry they teach you is strictly biochem.

VTboy, i think we speaking at the undergraduate level. I personaly thinking engineering is harder major for undergrad. Just because a major is harder does not make it better though. Biology is a touhg major though. Part of the reason i think engineering is harder is cause it has an extra half a year in units. At the graduate level, I am clueless to which is harder. This is all pointless.
