Bioinformatics vs Software Engineering

Which in your opinion is a better major a biology major hoping to get into the bioinformatics field or a Software Engineering major?

No brainer, software engineering. You could however find a school where you could major in biology and minor in computer science.

Bioinformatics is usually about manipulation of large data sets. A biology background is necessary to some extent, but you need computers and especially database classes (falling under software) to be prepared.

Some college offer bioinformatics programs, and I would say the exception to what I noted would be a school that has an integrated biology program with professors in the biology department who do bioinformatics.
