I'm going to be an incoming freshman this fall. And i preregistered for Intro Bio I. But im starting to hear that its going to be hard class with alot of work to do. Is this true? and if so, do you recommend that I not take it the fall semester of my freshman year so that i can get used to college life, or will i be ok? So you have an idea of my workload: The other classes i will be taking are Problem of God, Psych 101, Humanities and writing, First year seminar (international business if i dont get into the FYS)

It’s college - there will be plenty of hard classes, so you might as well start getting used to it now.

thats not the kind of dooshbag answer i was looking for. i was asking for a second opinion since my peer advisor suggested that i not take intro bio I my first semester because its alot of work

Are you going to be a bio major or pre-med? If so that’s a pretty standard course load, maybe even on the lighter side. If not there is no reason to start out with bio if you are concerned it is going to be too much for you.

lol probably should’ve clarified, I’m in MSB. so I’m not a bio major. BUT, i’m very interested in Bio. it interests me. so i’m going to take it at some point anyway. its a simple question really, my peer advisor thinks i should reconsider taking BIOL-103 because its a class with alot of workload and she thinks assimilating to college will be alot easier without that class during my first semester. do you agree or disagree with her?

The best thing I have learned about taking college classes is to disregard the tiny comments people will make. Look for consensus opinions and even take those with a grain of salt. Its all in perception of how you’re going to do, so if you start out stressing over it, well it will only trickle. Take your peer advisors advice, but it is your college career, throw in a ‘hard’ class like the OP said and find your balance.

If you’re in MSB, according to what you’ve posted, you’re not really taking any business classes. Most people have a tough time with accounting, so if you want to take a hard class, maybe you should get started on that?

^^^ agreed lol straight A’s all freshman year and the only B…financial accounting of course ;)

First of all, if you’re going to insult someone, spell it correctly. Second of all, it was an honest opinion. If you’re expecting expert advice from academic advisors, then go call them - your peer advisor should have given you her number. If you’re just going to insult people who care enough to take time and give you their damn opinion, then you should go fu*k yourself.

If you were looking for a second opinion, mine was to take it. A douch*bag answer might have been to tell you you’re a dumbass who can’t handle college. Learn the difference.

michaellungerr and rainbsprinkles, my preregistration packet suggests that i take accounting 2nd semester so i’m thinking i’ll do that. as for a first semester business class, I was suggested to take the First Year Seminar because this is the only chance I will ever get to take it. Idk, i took the recommended classes because it would keep me on track to meet my requirements. Do you think it would smarter to do otherwise?

@flight23, you can curse me out all you want, you’re still a dooshbag. and your answer was useless too, because there was no advice to be found in it. just a smartass remark. so go fu*k yourself. btw, i do know how to spell doosh right, but i can spell it however the hell i want.

I’m a senior majoring in the Biology department. My first semester I took Intro Biology, Intro Chemistry (both with lab), Calculus, Problem of God, and Humanities. I would not recommend that in the future… I still did okay but it sucked. This is fairly standard though for students who are premed and majoring in the Bio department.

Instead if you are a business major and interested in Biology, why not take a non-majors biology course? This will be a lot less work and will probably be equally interesting. You could take BIOL-008 or BIOL-013. Both of these are non-majors/non-premed courses. I don’t think you answered whether you are considering pre-med. If you are, then maybe you should take Intro Bio in the fall. On the other hand, if you are leaning towards pre-med, no need to jump right into it and potentially turn yourself off to something that you may end up loving.

oh sorry. no, i am not considering premed. i should have made that clearer. and thanks hoya13, i’m going to look into BIOL 008 & 013
