Biological Sciences/ Pre-Med Chances?

<p>Hi everyone,
I'm a female high school junior from Western Massachusetts. I would love to attend Columbia to study some sort of pre-med track, and I was wondering if I have a good chance (or any chance at all.)</p>

<p>GPA unweighted: 3.72
SAT: Critical Reading: 650
Math: 680
Writing: 630
(I plan on retaking the SATs, and taking the ACT)
SAT Subject tests:
World History 500 (I know, it's terrible- I'm planning to take at least 3 more- does Columbia ask to see all scores?)
AP Tests:
APModern European History 4</p>

<p>Freshman year:
Honors Biology: 96
Honors English 1: 94
Honors Geometry: 89
Latin 3: 98
Stagecraft: 90
Audio/Video 1: 91
World History 1: 93
Wellness 1: 92
Writing: 95
(I did slack off a bit second semester with the elective classes, because I didn't like them and couldn't switch out, which is no excuse but is the reason for the lower grades.)</p>

<p>Sophomore year:
AP Modern European History: 84
Band:95
Chorus:96
Foundations in Art: 95
Honors English 2: 92
Spanish 1: 95
Spanish 2: 96
Honors Chemistry: 92
Honors Algebra 2: 94</p>

<p>Next year's presumed schedule:
AP Biology
AP US History
AP Literature and Composition
Honors Spanish 4
Honors Latin 4
Calculus </p>

<p>Right now I am living abroad in Berlin as a Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange scholar, through the CBYX program in which 50 northeastern high school students recieve a full scholarship to spend a year abroad in Germany as an American ambassador. I cannot, however, recieve grades for my classes here, so my GPA will be based on my first two years of high school and then my first semester of senior year. </p>

<p>Athletics:
2 years on the varsity women's rowing team
1 year (here in Berlin) on Ruder Club Tegel's community team
(planning to continue in at least club level next year)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
participation in school chorus, school musical (only one year)
participation in orchestra (in Berlin- not an option in my school at home)
I have played the violin for 6 years and taken private lessons, attended chamber music camp
I have participated in 3 consecutive years of National Novel Writing Month, in which participants write 50,000 words in 30 days, and will be participating in Script Frenzy this April, where participants write 100 pages of script/screenplay in 30 days. </p>

<p>Work experience:
I have tutored German children in English
I did a month-long practicum as a chimney sweep in Berlin (very random)
This summer I will work at a Mass Audubon summer camp in New Hampshire as a junior counselor
Babysitting from the age of 11</p>

<p>Volunteer experience:
Road races (eg Berlin Marathon)- hand out water to runners, mark trails, direct racers
Crew/Rowing events- help move equipment at regattas, attend advocacy events for handicapped rowing facilities
Leaders-In-Training group at the camp in NH- tracked box turtles, dug a compostable toilet, worked with children at a Mass Audubon day camp, planted trees in urban areas</p>

<p>Random:
maintained honor roll for freshman and sophomore years
I have a bilateral moderate to severe hearing loss and wear hearing aids in both ears
I speak German fluently </p>

<p>What do you guys think? Thanks so much for any help!!</p>

<p>SAT’s definitely need to go up. and retake the world history subject test. Columbia asks for all scores and that 500 doesnt look too impressive. good luck!</p>

<p>That’s too much to read, but yes, Columbia does get all scores.</p>

<p>You definitely need to work on your standardized tests.</p>
