A thread from last year described biology at IWU as a "weed out program".

I'd appreciate any comments from current or past students re biology, as well as science/pre-med in general, at the school.

Thanks.

What is a weed out program?

I think the OP (in 2008) meant an unusually difficult program that resulted in a significant drop-out rate from the major.

IWU's acceptance rate to medical school is almost 2x the national average at 80%.

I wondered if the high acceptance rate is due to an undergraduate biology/pre-med program where most students have to withdraw (or are "weeded out") early in their college career due to the significant rigor of biology at IWU.

I don't know, it was only one post, hence my question.

Thanks.

Any bio majors (current or former) out there?

Thanks.

Not sure how to do links in this forum..........current Illinois Wesleyan student answering on Facebook IWU class of 2013...talks about bio

thanks, the link works.

IWU's bio program is pretty typical of most programs. If you are dedicated, do the work, and have the science background, you will do just fine. IWU is a place for serious students. Professors demand a lot, and students learn a lot.
