I am thinking of applying to UPenn, and I am wondering if it has a good Biology department. I'm sure it has a pretty good department because it is an Ivy, but I have heard a lot more about business economics coming from penn than anything else. would it be a mistake to go to Penn for the biology,as I'm not interested in Business in the least

Penn has a very good Biology department, and a lot of options for people interested in Bio, such as Biological Basis of Behavior. Fear not, Penn’s good. If you were talking about music performance (not theory but performance), I’d say steer toward UArts or something, but otherwise Penn is good a just about everything haha

actually, since you mentioned it, haha, i am interested in music performance. what is Uarts?

University of the Arts, in Center City Philadelphia. But if you are REALLY interested in performance, the place to check out is Curtis, which rivals Juilliard as the top classical-music conservatory.

Penn has a top 5 med school and tons of NIH grants for research. If bio research is what you want to do this is the place to be.

What would be a good school within UPENN to apply to if I am interested in Biological Engineering or Medicine/Pre-Med?

If you want to do engineering, typically you apply to the School of Engineering…
You can do premed at any school. The majority of premeds do biology and bio/healthcare related majors in Arts and Scinece. Many do Bioengineering in SEAS. Some are in nursing. A handful are in Wharton.

cool. I guess i would rather go to a good college that also has a good music program than an entire school of just music.

But those funding won’t go to your advantage at all, you won’t be researching with funded projects unless you get really lucky.

The extra funding means more work in labs. More work in labs means more work for undergrads to be doing in labs. I’ve interviewed with labs in the med school, so they do have positions open to undergrads.

Actually yeah, everyone I know who wants to do research is doing research. Not a problem at all
